Importance:
The major importance of
hydrosphere is that water sustains
various life forms and plays
an important role in ecosystems and
regulating atmosphere.

Hydrosphere in space

Some scientists believe a
hydrosphere exist in Europa, a moon
of Jupiter, that consist of a frozen
outer layer and a giant, liquid ocean
underneath it.
Water is sticky.
The molecules love to stick to things,
especially each other. It’s what gives it such a
large surface tension. It keeps you alive: it
means water can pull blood up narrow vessels
in the body, often against the force of gravity.

WHAT IS
HYDROSPHERE?
In physical geography, the
term hydrosphere (Greek hydro means
“Water”) describes the collective mass of
water found on, under, and over
a Planet's surface.
That explains that the earth’s
water comprises of the surface
water, ground water, and the
atmospheric water.
The surface water:
Surface water is water on
the
surface of the planet such as in

The Ground water
• "Groundwater is any water that lies
in aquifers beneath the land surface," said
Steven Phillips, a hydrologist with the
U.S. Geological Survey in Sacramento,
California.
What are aquifers?
• Aquifers are underground layers of
rock that are saturated with water that
can be brought to the surface through
natural springs or by pumping.
There are generally two kinds
of aquifers: confined and uncon
fined.
An unconfined aquifer, is
an aquifer which has the water table as
its upper boundary. Unconfined
aquifers occur near the ground surface
Confined aquifers are those in which an
impermeable dirt/rock layer exists that
prevents water from seeping into
the aquifer from the ground surface located
directly above.
Atmospheric water
the atmosphere may not be a
great storehouse of water, it is the
superhighway used to move
water around the globe.
