THE INSTITUTION’S MISSION

We at Illinois State University work as a diverse community of scholars with a commitment to


fostering a small-college atmosphere with large-university opportunities. We promote the highest
academic standards in our teaching, scholarship, public service and the connections we build
among them. We devote all of our resources and energies to creating the most supportive and
productive community possible to serve the citizens of Illinois and beyond.
The Division of Student Affairs provides educationally purposeful programs and services that
foster personal and professional growth, healthy behaviors, leadership development, and civic
engagement. Guiding this mission is a set of Divisional values which elevates the student voice
and complements the core values of the University .

UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS

• Each diversity organization has their own website that is easy to get to from the student affairs
webpage. Which shows the importance of getting students connected to campus and finding their
space.
• The town of Normal-Bloomington is included on the university’s website, along with Things To
Do page that goes into detail of the surrounding neighborhood.
• The university is passionate about diversity as 1 in 4 students are from a underrepresented
background.
