    We at Illinois State University work as a diverse community of scholars with a commitment to


    fostering a small-college atmosphere with large-university opportunities. We promote the highest
    academic standards in our teaching, scholarship, public service and the connections we build
    among them. We devote all of our resources and energies to creating the most supportive and
    productive community possible to serve the citizens of Illinois and beyond.
    The Division of Student Affairs provides educationally purposeful programs and services that
    foster personal and professional growth, healthy behaviors, leadership development, and civic
    engagement. Guiding this mission is a set of Divisional values which elevates the student voice
    and complements the core values of the University .
    Learning and Scholarship: We value our roles as educators and learners. This value is
    exemplified in building a spirit of inquiry and the capacity to integrate learning across
    STUDENT experiences and over time. Individualized Attention: We value the needs, well-being, and
    success of each person. This value is exemplified in our commitment to developing and
    AFFAIRS delivering experiences tailored to providing purposeful assistance, advocacy, and support.
    Diversity and Inclusion: We value differences among people, ideas, and cultures. This value is
    MISSION AND exemplified in our commitment to ensuring that policies, programs, services, and spaces are

    VALUES inclusive and advance the diversity of our community. Respect: We value the contributions and
    perspectives of others. This value is exemplified in our words and behaviors, which are built on a
    foundation of care, cooperation, recognition, and civility. Civic Engagement: We value every
    individual’s responsibility to contribute to the community. This value is exemplified by creating
    and supporting opportunities for individuals to gain knowledge, skills, values, and the motivation
    to identify community needs and actively participate with others for the common good.
    Collaboration: We value that our best comes from a team approach. This value is exemplified in
    our commitment to educate, communicate, and cultivate relationships that build mutually-
    beneficial partnerships to achieve shared success. Integrity: We value the integration of ethics
    into personal and professional practice. This value is exemplified in our commitment to being
    accountable, authentic, consistent, and just.

    UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS

    • Each diversity organization has their own website that is easy to get to from the student affairs
    webpage. Which shows the importance of getting students connected to campus and finding their
    space.
    • The town of Normal-Bloomington is included on the university’s website, along with Things To
    Do page that goes into detail of the surrounding neighborhood.
    • The university is passionate about diversity as 1 in 4 students are from a underrepresented
    background.
