Advantages of the CobaSealTM

Reliability Robustness

Safety Cost-effectivity

DryGasSeals Compressor Seals Division / TC © EagleBurgmann 2009 2009

Advantages of the CobaSealTM

Reliability
 Only one active sealing gap (less secondary gaps;
less influences by tolerances; O-Rings only)
 No wear  Free of contact at all conditions due to
aerostatic lift-off
 No limitation with regard to Slow-Roll operation
 No limitation with regard to dew point of buffer
gas supply
 Additional oil sealing by slinger effect of rotating seat
 Oil sealing even without buffer gas supply at standstill
condition (oil pumps in operation)
 Insensitive towards radial vibrations (gas film
stiffness)
 In case of short term failure of buffer
gas supply function of CobaSealTM is ensured

Advantages of the CobaSealTM

Robustness

 Rotating parts out of ductile materials

 Stationary face out of silicon carbide avoiding
known problems with carbon graphite in
combination with oil (blistering) and nitrogen
(wear at low dew point)

Advantages of the CobaSealTM

Safety
 Rotating parts out of ductile materials including
seat with high performance DM-TIN coating (Japan
pat. No. 2134661)
 High safety respectively additional back-up by
providing gas separation at max. 10 bar /145 psi
pressure in case of total DGS failure
