Parts of

Speech
Definition: Class of words based on the word's function, the way it works in a sentence.

Example
Ali went to school.

Dela is an intelligent girl

- There are nine parts of speech in the English language: noun,


pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction,
Article and interjection.
Noun/ Kata Benda
It Represents:
- Person
- Name
- Place
- Thing
- Animal
- Food

Examples
dog, apple, kitchen,
restaurant, John, Franki, rice,
cake

NOTE:
Nouns are the subject of a
sentence.
Examples

• This dog is brown in color.


• Zimbabwean’s staple food is sadza.
• Yogyakarta is a big city.
• Indonesians like to eat rice everyday.
• My mother’s bag is dirty.

Pronoun/ Kata Ganti

Example:

Instead of saying “Rinonce likes to eat”, you could say, “She likes to
eat.”

• My father is a teacher, he works very hard.
• My family is rich and we are going to Australia next
month.
• Indah is a masters student and her major is English.
• I helped him carry his bag because it was heavy.
• My friends are visiting me and they like to eat nasi
goreng.

• Franki coughed loudly to attract his attention.
