Conclusion
History of barcode

 The barcode was discovered by Mr. Woodland and Silver, who were
studying at Drexel University in Philadelphia, after the head of a
supermarket chain asked for help with a better way to track
inventory. Woodland, a former Scout boy, wondered that the
symbol could be used to track inventory, and began drawing lines
from various thick sand during a visit to Miami in 1948. The symbol
that eventually emerged was the well-known global product
symbol.

 It was finally on October 20, 1949 that the real barcode will look like
black and white vertical lines
Definition

 It is an automatic identification technology

 Bar code is a predefined format of dark bars and white spaces
 Structured to contain a specific piece of information
 It allows real-time data to be collected accurately and rapidly
 Combination of barcode technology with computer and
application software improves performance, productivity and
profitability
Application of barcode

• FOR LABORATORIES  • FOR LIBRARIES

• FOR INDUSTRY
Working of barcode

 The normal barcode consiste of 93 line of barcode black

and white There are 3 groups , These 3 group split the
remaining 84 to two groups each one of them consiste of 6
group and each one of these 6 consiste of 7 bar which
represent one number

Type of barcode reader
 There are five basic types of barcode readers:
• Pen (wands) type reader • Slot scanners • Charge-couple device (CCD) scanners

• Image scanner /camera based reader •  Laser scanners

 CONCLUSION

 Barcodes especially the UPC have slowly become an essential part of modern
civilization. Their use is widespread, and the technology behind barcodes is
constantly improving.

ADVANTAGES  DISADVANTAGES

Represent unique identity of a product Scratched or crumpled barcodes may cause problems

Accuracy of data input (error free

)
)
System Failure may cost more delays.

Labour savings by avoiding manual system Data must be coded in the barcode
More accurate dispatch and cost efficient In laser scanning, durability and cost are the two
disadvantages
