    What is Information
    Information security is the processSecurity ?
    of securing data
    from any kind of violations in the form of theft or
    loss. It aims to protect data at different stages i.e
    while storing it, transferring it or accessing it.
    IT Security plays a vital role within the Government,
    Military, Finance companies, Hospitals and many
    private businesses as they store a large amount of
    data and information on their computer systems that
    need to be kept secure.
    Information security has evolved as
    one of the main requirements of
    businesses worldwide today.

    Since data is our main asset in the


    digital economy, it becomes of
    paramount importance to protect that
    data.
    “ Information security is based on three main aspects of data security,
    frequently referred to as the CIA- namely Confidentiality, Integrity and
    Availability. ”
    Note : Cyber Security ! = Information Security , WHY ???
    ➢ Cybersecurity is meant to protect attacks in cyberspace such as data,
    storage sources, devices. It usually deals with cybercrimes, cyber
    frauds and law enforcement

    ➢ Information security is intended to protect data from any form of


    threat regardless of being analogue or digital. It deals with
    unauthorised access, disclosure modification and disruption
    The main role for an IT Security
    specialist is to:
    Monitoring security access

    Protecting computer systems by creating barriers deterring external access to them

    Performing both internal and external security audits

    Conducting security assessments through vulnerability testing and risk analysis


    ➢ Recognise problems within systems by identifying uncharacteristic activity

    ➢ Verifying the security of third-party vendors and collaborating with them to


    meet security requirements

    ➢ Continuously updating the company’s incident response and disaster recovery


    plans

    ➢ Last but not the least , The responsibility of being on call 24/7 in case of any
    security breaches or in any emergency situation.

    areas within IT
    Security, they are :
    ➢ Network Troubleshooting
    ➢ System Administration
    ➢ Firewall Administration
    ➢ Information Security Policies
    ➢ Penetration testing
    ➢ Security Analyst
    From Big Corporate Giants to
    Self-Funded Startups have all
    started to invest in
    Information Security.

    There is no dearth of job


    opportunities in this domain.

    ➢ Understanding of applicable law
    and regulations in relation to IT
