2 Richel Gumatas

The document discusses problem posing in mathematics. It defines problem posing as generating new problems or formulating given problems. It then provides two examples of real-life problems that can be solved using statistics and permutations. The first example involves a survey about movie preferences while the second is about students' favorite subjects. For each problem, the document formulates at least two questions and provides the conclusions.

PROBLEM POSING

Dunker described problem posing

in mathematics as the generation
of a new problem or the
formulation of a given problem.
(Dunker, 1945).
Posing a Real-life Problems
that can be solved by
Statistics and Permutations.
Objectives:

1.Explain the basic concepts uses and importance

of statistics and permutations.

2. Poses real-life problems that can be solve by

statistics and permutations.
Statistics is a branch of mathematics dealing with
the collection, analysis, interpretation , and
presentation of masses of numerical data. Statistics
compares data through mean , median and mode
and other tools that we are use in interpreting data.
Living in the information age where we deal the
world, most information’s determined
mathematically using statistics.
1. Romeo surveyed his class to find out what kinds of movies his classmates like to
watch. A bar graph can be used to show different sets of data. Romeo made a single-bar
graph of the data collected from the boys in his class.

1. How many more boys like science movies than girls?

Answer: 3 boys

2. For which genre is there the greatest difference

between girls and boys ?
Answer: Drama

3. Which movie genre is the same for boys and girls?

Answer: Animation

Conclusion:
Comedy is a kind of movie that Romeo’s classmates
like to watch.

2. Mrs. Ramos was asked to create a survey of her students’ favorite
subject using a circle graph.

1. What percent of students chose English and

math as their favorite subjects?
Answer: 45%

2. How many students like math ?

Answer: 25%

3. How many students like science?

Answer: 25%
Conclusion:
Math and Science are the favorite subjects of
her students.
Reference: Calvert Math
Activity

Direction: Formulate at least two questions out of a posed problem.

Permutations refer to the different possible

arrangements of set of objects where order is
important with no repetition allowed. Permutation
can be solve using three methods; The tree
diagrams, listing method and using the formula.
Problem:
Sarah Geronimo is a popular concert artist. Suppose she is planning a
concert tour in three cities –Manila, Cebu, and Davao. In how many
ways can she arrange her tour schedule?

The possible tour schedule using listing method.

1. How many choices does Sarah have if she plan her first visit in Manila?
Answer: 2

2.How many choices does Sarah have if she plan to end her visit in
Davao?
Answer: 2

3.In how many ways can she arrange her tour schedule.
Answer: 6

Conclusion:

There are 3 X 2 X 1 or 6 possible ways to arrange the tour schedule of

Sarah’s concert.
“Without posed
problems, there
are
no problems to
solve.”
