Topic-Control Chart & It's Application

This document discusses control charts and their application in quality control. It describes control charts as graphical tools that monitor processes for unusual variations. The document outlines different types of control charts, including variable control charts for continuous data and attribute control charts for discrete data. Specifically, it explains the X-bar and R charts, which are commonly used variable control charts that respectively monitor the central tendency and variability in a process. The document emphasizes that control charts can detect when processes are out of control so that corrective actions may be taken to improve quality.

INTRODUCTION
TYPES OF CAUSES
TYPES OF CONTROL CHARTS
CONTROL CHARTS FOR VARIBLES
BASIC CONCEPT
WHEN TO USE CONTROL CHART
R-CHART
X- BAR CHART
INTRODUCTION
Statistical quality control
Statistics :the collection and analysis of large
quantities of information in the form of
numerical
Quality control :A system of maintaining
standard in manufactured products by testing
a sample to see if it meets the required
standard.
Statistical quality control : it may be used for
monitoring at various stages of production
CAUSES TYPE
Chance causes : these causes take place as
per chance or in a random fashion a result
of the cumulative effect of multiplicity of
several minor causes which cannot be
identified.
Assignable causes : it refers to those
changes in the quality of the product which
can assigned or attributed to any particular
causes like defective materials defective
labours, etc
CONTROL CHART
Control chart is graphical representation
of the collected information.
It pertains to the measured or otherwise
judged quality characteristics of the items
or samples.
WHAT DO THESE CHARTS DO
It detects variations in the processing and
warns if there is any departure from the
specified tolerance limits .
It is primarily a diagnostic technique .
It depicts whether there is any change on
the characteristics of items since the start
of the production run.
PURPOSE AND
ADVANTAGES
A control chart indicates whether a
process is in control or out of control.
It determines processes variability and
detects unusual variations taking place in
a process.
It ensures product quality level.
It warns in time and if the process is
rectified in time scarp percentage can be
reduced .
It provides information about the
selection of process and setting of
tolerance limits.
Control charts build us the reputation of
the organization through customer
satisfaction .
TYPES OF CONTROL CHART

CONTROL CHART

ATTRIBUTE CHARTS
COMPARISION OF VARIABLE AND
ATTRIBUTE CHART
 variable chart involves the measurement of the job
dimensions whereas an attributes chart only
differentiates between a defective item and a non
defective item .
 Variable chart are more detailed and contain more
information are compared to attributes charts
 attributes charts is based on “GO and NO GO” data
require comparatively bigger sample size .
 Variables charts are expensive
X- BAR CHART
 It shows changes in process and is affected by changes in process
variability.
 It is a chart for the measure of central tendency .
 It shows erratic or cyclic shifts in the process
 It detects steady progress changes like tool wear.
 It is most commonly used variables chart.
 When used along with R- bar chart:
it tells u when to leave the process.
it controls the quality of incoming material.
X- bar and R- chart when used together form powerful instrument for
diagnosing quality problems.
R- BAR CHART
It controls general variability of the
process and is affected by changes in
process variability .
It is a chart for measure of spread.
It is used gen rally along with X- bar
chart
CHART DETAILS
APPROCH
Firststep : determine what type of data
you are working with.
Second step : determine what type of
control chart to use with your data set
Third step: calculate the average and the
control limits.
