• Note that only one type of scheduler can be used in BTS at a time
– Still notice that when using shared scheduler you can have also one cell using

▪ thus almost corresponding to the performance of dedicated scheduler
– When using shared scheduler you can easily expand to more than one
schedulers
▪ Meet the HSDPA capacity requirement in cell level due to the traffic growth
• Note that the table describes only BTS Baseband dimensioning. In practice also Iub, Air interface, etc has to be
taken into account. Please see RAS dimensioning guide for more information.

• 1-2 UEs in one HSUPA resource step: Resource steps 1-3 (32 CE + 24 CE + 24
2 Mbps peak rate per UE CE = 80 CE)
• 3-4 UEs in one HSUPA resource step:

FSMB capacity with HSPA
• When using one FSMB, there can is 112 CEs available for HSUPA
• When using two FSMB HSUPA/R99 can share up to 240 CEs and still
there is dedicated capacity available for R99 only
– There can up to two HSDPA schedulers
• When having dedicated HSDPA schedulers (1+1+1) there is 214 CEs
available for HSUPA/R99

Flexi BTS 1*FSMC (Max 180) Flexi BTS 2*FSMC (max.360 CE)
• FSMD enables very high usage of HSPA and leaving lots of capacity for
R99
• With one FSMD you can have up to 4 shared HSDPA schedulers with 15
codes and 64 users/LCG
– Still there is room for HSUPA and R99
• With one FSMD you can also enable dedicated schedulers for 5 cells
• With two FSMD you can share easily two operators RAN with high HSDPA

– Calculation of a required number of baseband modules (#FSMs, #WSPs)
– Calculation of capacity usage of base band modules (occupied/free resources)
• To base required BB capacity dimensioning on (HW/SW) limitations, e.g.:
– Max HW capacity vs. max SW releases
– Max number of supported antenna carriers
– Consumption of RACH units
– Max number of supported CCCH cells

– SHF - Soft Handover Factor (e.g. 30%)
– TrafficPerSiteGOS – inputted traffic with/without traffic overhead depending on GoS
▪ no overhead for ‘best effort’
▪ ‘delay’ overhead calculated on base of lookup tables equivalent to M/G/R-PS
– MeanRate_PS_UL/DL bearer = DataRatebearer * Throughput
▪ Throughput as a percentage of the nominal Data Rate
▪ Throughput => 79% - it includes the L2 re-transmission overhead of 10% and 15% of buffer headroom to avoid
overflow (peak to average load ratio headroom) => (1+0.10) x (1+0.15) = 1.265 => 26.5% overhead => throughput is
79% of user traffic (= 1/26.5%)

– No additional CEs are needed for
softer HO or compressed mode.
– Softer HO is included in the CE

FSP estimation (14/15) – RACH Unit estimation (1/1)
NoFSP max MinFSP _ CE ; MinFSP _ RACH ; MinFSP _ AntCarriers
MaxNoOfRACH – Max
• each FSP contains 3 Rake handlers number of RACH units
• each Rake contains 3 RACH handlers, but only one per FSP for UL PRACH
Antenna carrier limitation is based on two limitation, one for FSP and other for FSM It is required to check
which of these two is the limiting one:
• antenna carriers supported by FSP (HW limit) (= MaxAntCarrFSP)
– FSPA/FSPB support - max 2/2/2 with RX div 12 antenna carriers
– Note: one FSMD supports up to 24 antenna carriers (2*FSPB)
• antenna carriers supported by FSM (SW limit)
– FSM support - max 4/4/4 with RX div 24 antenna carriers (= MaxAntCarrFSM)
