IELTS Speaking Part 1: Five Simple Rules

Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test is supposed to be easy.


You don't need to give 'difficult‘ answers, and you should
try to avoid making mistakes.

Here are five simple rules for Speaking Part 1:

1. Keep your answers short, then stop with confidence


2. Answer the questions using full sentences
3. Use words from the examiner's question in your answer
4. If possible, give a reason for your answer
5. Don't forget to say "yes" or "no" when necessary
Speaking Skills: The Environment

You are going to work with a partner to practice Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking
Test. A is the examiner. B is the candidate.

Let’s start by talking about nature


• Do you like visiting natural places?
• What are some well-known natural attractions in your country?
• Have you ever gone camping?
• Do you like a natural environment?

We will now talk about pollution


• Does your country have a problem with pollution?
• Do you think it’s important to try to reduce pollution?
• What do you do to care for the planet?
• Do you think pollution is getting better or worse?

Let’s continue practicing Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking Test. Change roles. This
Time B is the examiner and A is the candidate.

B ask questions to A on the following topics.

Let’s talk about weather


• Do you prefer a hot or a cold climate?
• Does weather affect your mood?
• Would you like a job where you work outside?
• What do you usually do when it rains?

Let’s move on to talk about where you live


• Do you like the neighbourhood you are living in?
• Is it a good place for young people?
• What type of shops can you find where you live?
• Do you prefer to live in busy or quiet places?
Choose one question from each topics. Write a paragraph for each question.
