    Background
    Together we know that fuel is a commodity that we cannot
    escape from our daily lives, for individual consumers it is
    closely related to mobility between cities or regions in the
    form of fuel for the transportation sector such as motorcycles,
    cars, public transportation such as buses, trains, ships and
    others, while for productive business activities, of course, it is
    very much needed as fuel for industrial activities, especially in
    factories and other businesses that can encourage economic
    activity.

    Upstream-Downstream Oil and Gas Industry Activities

    The flow of activities of the Upstream- Downstream Oil


    and Gas Industry As shown in the diagram in the picture on
    the side that the petroleum processing plant is the initial
    process of fuel procurement activities, from this processing
    refinery there will be a process of making fuel oil such as
    LPG, gasoline, kerosene, diesel oil and its derivatives such
    as lubricating asphalt and others. So far, the production of
    Indonesian fuel oil is only carried out by PT Pertamina while
    the proportion for refineries other than Pertamina is very
    small. Diesel fuel is the most widely produced fuel from
    Pertamina's refineries. The level of production of fuel
    produced from Indonesian domestic refineries tends to be
    increasingly unable to meet the increasing demand for fuel,
    apart from the increasingly inefficient refinery processing
    technology, the cost of producing domestic fuel has become
    more expensive when compared to the price of imported
    fuel from Singapore.

    refinery in North Sumatra the post-independence period
    which had been operating are the Balikpapan I Refinery
    since 1891. Since then, (1950), Dumai (1971), Cilacap
    several refineries were built Refinery I (1976), Cilacap II
    during the pre-independence Refinery (1981), Balikpapan II
    period. Refinery (1983), Balongan
    Refinery (1994), and Kasim
    Refinery (1997). TPPI and
    TWU refineries.

    Broadly speaking, the processes that take place in oil
    refineries can be classified into five parts, namely: Distillation
    Process, which is a distillation process based on differences in
    boiling points; This process takes place in an atmospheric
    distillation column and a vacuum distillation column. Included
    in this process are: Decomposition by thermal cracking and
    catalyst Unification through alkylation and polymerization
    processes Alteration through isomerization and catalytic
    reforming Process Processing. This process is intended to
    prepare hydrocarbon fractions to be further processed, also
    to be processed into final products.
