ENGLISH SYSTEM
 is defined as the measurement system used in

many countries including the United States using
feet, pounds and seconds

METRIC SYSTEM
 The metric system is an internationally agreed decimal system of

measurement created in France in 1799. The International System
of Units (SI), the official system of measurement in almost every
country in the world, is based upon the metric system.
 Meter, centimeter, kilometer and the like are examples for Metric System
MEASURES OF LENGTH
 Thisrefers to the length, width, thickness of

objects and also in getting the distance
 Tools to be used:
ruler, tape measure, meter stick and the like

MEASURES OF WEIGHT AND MASS
Mass refers to the amount of matter in an object without considering the

location,
whereas
Weight refers to the mass subjected to gravitational attraction. Your mass
remains the same regardless of where you are, but your weight can vary
and the weight of a person varies with location.
For example, you weigh lighter on the moon than on Earth because the
moon’s gravity is weaker than the Earth.
GRAM
Isthe basic metric unit of weight.

MEASURES OF VOLUME AND
CAPACITY
 Volume is the amount of space occupied by an object.

 The common metric units of volume are cubic centimeters (cm 3) and
cubic meter (m3). These units are obtained as the product of the objects’
length, width and height (length x width x height). On the other hand,
 Capacity is the amount of substance a container can hold.

 Refers to liquid or objects in a cup, a water jug, and a basket can hold.
But when we talk about how much juice we
drink, how much water is in the pool and
how much space hollow blocks can occupy,
then we are talking about VOLUME.
