What is farming?
Farming is the act or the process of working the ground, planting seeds, and
growing edible plants. You can also describe raising animals for milk or meat as farming.
Farming is a great way to describe the lifestyle and the work of people whose jobs are in
the agriculture industry.

The importance of farming


It is important due to the fact that it provides food, as well as other necessities in a
community. Farming and agriculture is essential to the success of society as a whole.
Without it, everyone would be forced to hunt and gather food, and it is not possible for
the world's population to overcome such a lifestyle.
Factors influencing the farming industry
Farming can be affected by many things, although these are subdivided in two large
categories such as physical and human factors.

The physical factors:

oThe labour impacts
oThe capital
oThe technology
oThe market
Types of farming
1)Arable farming 2)Pastoral farming
 The production of crops  Focused on animals and animal
produce
 Practised in the southeast
 Steep pieces of land
 The UK grows cereals: - oats
- wheat - best suited to sheep since they
- barley can easily graze the grass over the slopes

 Pulse crops and forage crops

 In Latin, it means “garden culture”

 The growth and production of grapes
 Also called a micro-farm
 The UK is a major consumer, but a minor
 Fruit, vegetables, flowers are grown and sold

Curiosities
 Farmland, with more than 20 million hectares of land, covers about 64 per cent of
the UK, which is the equivalent of 30 million football pitches.

 East Anglia is the most productive crop producer in the UK.
