There are four types of store
layouts :

Grid layout
Free flow layout

The counters and fixtures are placed
in long rows or ‘‘runs,’’ usually at right
angles, throughout the store.

It allows for movement within the
area & use space effectively.

A preferred layout in many retail
stores that adopt self services.
Example of grid
layout

Big Bazaar, is the best example of grid
layout.
Big Bazaar consists of different
sections like food products,
electronics, apparels, home furnishing
etc.

Let us took example of food section, it

includes other sub categories like:

Dairy products(chill station)

Eggs and meat
Farm fresh(vegetables and fruits)
 Every section have three to four
cash counters of their own, placed
parallel to each other.

 At the entrance and exit of the
store checking counters are there.

 Near the exit gate they have their
store rooms in which they store surplus
goods, further use for replenishment.

other. Like we cannot able to see or
judge what is in next row.

There are large bins for fresh
vegetables and fruits.

Big containers for cereals.

ATMOSHPERE OF THE STORE
The lights in the store are evenly
spread so that all the food items
are clearly visible to the customer.

There are ongoing announcements all
over the store, about discounts and
new arrivals.

All the products are arranged in a
Free flow layout
Fixtures and merchandise are
grouped into free-flowing patterns
or asymmetrical pattern on the
sales floor.

Allows free movement and
encourages people to browse and

 In the "theater" of retailing, there
are two basic types of merchandise
presentation: visual merchandising
displays which are analogous to the
props which set scenes and serve as
backdrops; and on-shelf merchandising
which represents “the stars of the
performance”.

 At Globus all the gondolas and
fixtures are placed in a asymmetrical

 In this store we can see different types

of fixtures and gondolas like:

Ø Tables, large bins, and flat-base decks
are used to display bulk quantities of
merchandise.
Ø Four-way Fixture – Here it is Used for
hanging belts and bags.

The four-way rack is considered a

feature fixture, because it presents
ØWall fixture : To make a plain wall
merchandisable, it is usually covered
with a vertical skin that is fitted with
vertical columns of notches similar to
that on the gondola, into which a variety
of hardware can be inserted.
Ø
ØShelves, peghooks, bins, baskets, and
even hanger bars can be fitted into wall
systems.

Loop / race track layout
A major customer aisle begins at the
entrance, loops through the store—
usually in the shape of a circle,
square, or rectangle—and then
returns the customer to the front of
the store.

The aisle provides access to various

shop-in- shops or departments within
the store.
Example of loop
layout

Shoppers stop having a loop layout
form of the store.
 Shoppers stop have different
sections of different varieties, which
are having different types of gondolas
and fixtures.

 They have nesting tables for
displaying their newly arrived
merchandise.

 flat-base decks are used to display
 The four-way feature rack and the
round rack are two of the fixtures most
heavily used today.

The round rack is known as a bulk or

capacity fixture, and the four-way rack
is considered a feature fixture, because
it presents merchandise in a manner,
which features certain characteristics
of the merchandise (such as color,
shape, or style).

appropriate example of spine layout
form.
 The gondolas and fixtures are placed
in different types of patterns : in a
grid, loop and free flow layout form or

focuses on the gondolas on which
the merchandise has been
displayed. Thereby enhance the
product’s beauty.

The VM of the store is smartly
coordinated. Showing all the
designs and stuff which they have.
conclusion
 In grid layout(Big Bazaar), must have to
focus more on the vm part of the store as
all the products are not visually appealing
because of their unhealthy vm.

 There must be some music will be played in
the store, so that the customer enjoy
while shopping.

 In free flow layout(globus), according to me
 The vm of the store(globus) is
excellent.

 In loop layout(shopper’s stop) they
must focus on the vm part of the
store, as the vm is not appealing at all.
All the clothes are not properly
maintained. It will reduce customer’s
interest towards the merchandise.
