CHAPTER- VII

A CASE STUDY ON

OC – II, MANUGURU
 DRILL DETAILS
250mm
 Drills Recp 750-4 Namely
 603, 204, 902, 908
 IR-100-2 Namely IR1,IR2

 150mm
 Recp 4 Numbers Namely 106,102,613,807
 Drilling Pattern
 For OB-9mtrs spacing x 7mtrs Burden
 Depth Max. 14 mtrs including 5% Subgrade

 drilling
 For Coal 3x 5mtrs or 5x7mtrs. Or 6x6mtrs.
 Depth Max. 7mtrs.
 Precautions While Drilling
 1.Drilling will be done in solid ground .
2.Drill will be positioned perpendicular to the bench
3.Wet drilling to avoid dust
• Steps Taken To Reduce Cost Of Drilling

• 1. Proper dozing of the bench to avoid collapse of

holes.
2. Diversion of water away from drilling area.
3. Drilling from free face to back to avoid
marching over drilled holes.
4. Avoiding plying of vehicles on the drilled holes
5. Charging of the holes

Charging details for Coal

* Dia & Depth of Hole :150 MM X 7 Mtrs.

* Charging Quantity :45 Kgs to 62.5 Kgs.
* Explosive column Length :2 Mtrs to 3.5 Mtrs.

Charging quantities may vary from Pattern &

hardness of Coal
Precaution while Charging

All the Equipment including drill will be

marched from charging site. & The area
marked with Red flags.
 Charging will be done under the supervision
of Blasting overman
In watery holes explosive Catridges will be
pushed by the use of long wooden buntons.
… Cont ...

In Hotstrata holes will be filled with water

and charging will be done before blasting.
In case of SMS (watery holes) the hose pipe
will be push up to the bottom of the hole and
the density of explosive may also varied from
0.7 to 0.9.
Sleeping holes will be marked with red flags.

25 Mts Cord Relays
17 Mts Cord
42 Mts cord
Precaution while Blasting

Entire area with in the danger zone (500Mtrs),

will be evacuated by giving long siren with
Explosive van.
Equipment will be marched to safe distance.
Posting of Sentries in all entries.
Shelter for blasting overman.
Blasting near boundaries - clearance obtained
in writing.
