Software modification

Software Modifications
version
3.29 / 3.30  CNF23 added to allow setpoint lock.
 LOW BATT alarm logic modified: (AL4 – LOW BATT, refer to p.46)
 The time delay before triggering ON the Low Battery Alarm during the engine starting sequence has been lengthened to 15 seconds.
 Since the battery voltage may normally drop < 10V during this time, the alarm will no longer come ON during a normal unit starting.
 Creation of communication option.
 CNF24 now used to configure WT SENSOR alarm (shutdown option).
 CNF24 OFF indicates that WTS operate as an alarm only.
 CNF24 ON, the unit shutdowns when the alarm comes on and increment the StartFail counter.
 CNF15 now used to allow/forbid use of standby mode on truck units:
 CNF15 OFF indicates that the Oasis Unit does not have Electric Standby.
 CNF15 ON indicates that the unit will be controlled as a unit with Electric Standby.

3.33 / 3.34  CNF 16 Alt Aux configuration modified to generate shutdown alarm.
 CNF23 Setpoint Lock Message added: “SP LOCKED” is displayed for 5 seconds.
 CNF22 added to manage hot gas valves control. This update is not used for the Oasis units.
 CNF24 set to ON for all units (trucks and trailers).
 If CNF24 is OFF, the unit will not stop when the WTS alarm is activated.
 FN6 Maximum OFF-Time logic and configuration modified: (refer to SB AFS 34-09 PROD)
 When the Maximum OFF-Time is set to “Time Start”, the unit is forced to restart after
30 minutes of OFF time.
 Factory setting is “Temp Start”.
3.C1 / 3.C2  CNF6 Starting sequence modified to extend clutch life.
 SYSTEM CK alarm trigger modified: (AL16 – SYSTEM CK, refer to p.57)
 When CNF6 is set to ON, in Cool mode, if the suction pressure is > 4 bar (60 PSIG) for more than 30 seconds, the alarm will activate.
 In Heat mode, if the suction pressure is > 7 bar (103 PSIG) for more than 60 seconds, the alarm will activate.
 In cool mode, when the return air temperature is > -17°C (1.4°F) and Ambient Temperature is ≥ 4°C (39.2°F), if the suction
pressure is < -0.4 bar (-5.9 PSIG) for 2 continuous minutes, the alarm will activate.
 Temperature control algorithm always run to avoid units stuck in heat mode.
 Communication option improved to add new commands available remotely (3.C2
only).

Regulation logic: Graph explanation

The regulation logic graphs differ following the setpoint temperature :

 Perishable when TSetpoint > -12°C
 Frozen when TSetpoint < -12°C

This graph illustrates the principle of regulation logic in continuous and Diesel modes for Oasis 350 and for Perishable (TSetpoint < -
12°C).

 The cooling mode is activated, the compressor runs in high speed mode (deep blue area)
with 6 cylinders (6 cyl) which makes the temperature decrease quickly in order to reach the
setpoint temperature. (refer to the left axis)
 When the temperature reaches T = Tsetpoint + 1.2 °C, the compressor switches to the low
speed mode (light-blue area) with 4 cylinders (4 cyl), making the temperature decrease
softly.
 When the temperature reaches T = Tsetpoint – 0.3 °C, the cooling mode changes over to
the heating one.
 According to the heating/cooling mode switching delay, the temperature keeps on
decreasing. Besides, in accordance with the thermal inertia, the temperature may reach
the temperature which triggers the high speed mode of the heating mode (T = Tsetpoint – 1.5
°C).
 In any case, after it stabilizes, the temperature then increases and tends to the setpoint
temperature. (refer to the right axis)
 The unit continues the alternation between the cooling and the heating mode, so the
temperature varies around the setpoint temperature.

Defrost Explanation

Defrost mode types:

 Manual defrost mode by the cab command key
 Automatic defrost mode :

 Periodic defrost at preset intervals: 1.5, 3, 6 or 12 hrs depending on FN0 setting.

 The Defrost Air (DA) switches which detects the pressure drop across the coil pressure difference.
 Refer to Oasis unit operation

For more information about periodic setting :

Refer to “Oasis Unit Operation module”

Defrost can only be engaged if Defrost Thermostat Termination (DTT) is closed, i.e. if box temperature is below +3 °C (37.4 °F).

For more information about Defrost Thermostat Termination (DTT) or Defrost Air (DA) switches :
Refer to the “Oasis sensor” module.

Terminated conditions of defrost mode:

 DTT opens.
 Run relay is de-energized during defrost.
 Defrost cycle not complete within 45 minutes. (AL6 – DEFRFAIL, refer to p.47).
 In this case, the internal timer is reset and the next Periodic defrost intervals is set at 1.5 hours.

When defrost override is active :

 AL6 / DEFRFAIL alarm is indicated after 45 minutes.
 The manual defrost key overrides automatic mode and starts a new cycle.

CAUTION
Respect the LO/TO instructions (refer to the
Safety module).

At room temperature,
 Measure the room temperature with a thermometer
 Measure the sensor resistor with a multimeter
 Check that the measured value corresponds to the
table values (refer to p.18).
 If the values do not correspond, replace the sensor
with another.

A second measure could be done at 0°C (32°F) in water with ice.

You would measure:
 32650 Ω for the RAS, SAS, WTS and ATS sensors,
 325860 Ω for the CDT sensor.

Checking the switches (OP, DTT, HP1)

OP switch
 Remove the pressure switch.

CAUTION
Respect the LO/TO instructions (refer to the
Safety module).

 Check if the contact is open or closed with a multimeter:

 If the measured resistor value is different from ∞,
replace the OP switch with another.
 Put the OP switch under pressure of 2.5 bar
 If the measured resistor value is different from 0 Ω or
∞, replace the OP switch with another.

DTT switch
 Remove the thermostat contact (DTT).

CAUTION
Respect the LO/TO instructions (refer to the
Safety module).

 Check if the contact is open or closed with a multimeter at

room temperature which must be greater than 10°C
(52°F).
 Cool the defrost thermostat temperature then check that
the contact closes itself at about 3°C (37.4°F) (refer to
p.18).
 If the thermostat contact does not close itself or if the
resistor value is different from 0 Ω, replace the DTT switch
with another.

Checking the switches (OP, DTT, HP1)

HP switch (HP1)
 Install a manometer couple on the compressor.

CAUTION
Respect the LO/TO instructions (refer to the
Safety module).

 Block the condenser suction air supply with a sheet of

cardboard.
 Turn on the unit after having got manometer hoses in the
condenser out and put the top grill back.
 Move away from the unit, all the while keeping an eye on
HP evolution.
 The HP1 pressure increases until the HP1 switches off at 32
bar (cut out pressure). The unit turns off automatically.

CAUTION
If beyond 32 bar the unit does not stop, stop the unit
and replace HP switch with another. In that case, do the
test again

 If the unit stops at 32 bar, check that the unit restarts (and
so the HP1 switches on) at 24 bar (cut in pressure).

Calibrating the Suction Pressure Transducer (SPT)

 Install a manometer set on the refrigerating circuit. The pressure

in the compressor must be greater than the atmospheric
pressure.
 Disconnect the harness from the SPT sensor.
 Disconnect the SPT sensor from the refrigerating circuit (Schrader
connector).
 Connect the SPT sensor to its harness.
 Press the ( I ) key of the cab command, to put the unit in
Standby mode without connecting it to the power grid.
The cab command displays “NO POWER” or “AL23”.
 Press the Unit Data key to display the pressure.
Ex: “SUCT 0.1b” or “CD1 0.1 b”.
 Press the Enter key at least 3 seconds. The cab
Atmospheric pressure chart command displays “SUCT 0 b” or “CD1 0 b” (relative value
Altitude (m) Pressure (bar) of the atmospheric pressure at altitude 0).
0 0 - If you cannot display “SUCT 0 b” or “CD1 0 b”, replace
1000 -0,1 SPT and repeat the calibration step.
2000 -0,2
 Disconnect the harness from the SPT sensor.
3000 -0,3
 Reconnect the SPT sensor to the refrigerating circuit (Schrader

Adjusting the Defrost Air Switch (DA)

1 2  Make sure magnehelic gauge is in proper calibration.

NOTE
The magnehelic gauge may be used in any position, but must be
re-zeroed if position of gauge is changed from vertical to horizontal
or vice versa. Use only in position for which it is calibrated.

 With air switch in vertical position, connect high pressure side of

3 magnehelic gauge to high side connection of air switch.
 Install tee in pressure line to high side connection. Tee should be
6 approximately half-way between gauge and air switch otherwise an
improper reading may result.
 Attach an ohmmeter to the air switch electrical contacts to check switch
5 action.

NOTE
4 Use a hand aspirator, since blowing into the tube with the mouth
may cause an incorrect reading.

1. Magnehelic Gauge
 With the gauge reading at zero, apply air pressure very slowly to the air
2. Adjustment Screw (0.050 socket head size) switch. An ohmmeter will indicate continuity when switch actuates (refer
to DA switch description for parameter).
3. Ohmmeter or Continuity Device
 If switch fails to actuate at correct gauge reading, adjust switch by
4. Pressure Line or Aspirator Bulb turning adjusting screw clockwise to increase setting or
5. Low Side Connection (blue or transparent tube) counterclockwise to decrease setting.

6. High Side Connection (red tube)  Repeat checkout procedure until switch actuates at correct gauge
reading.
 After switch is adjusted, place a small amount of paint on the adjusting
screw so that vibration will not change switch setting.

Checking the High Pressure Cut Out Switch (HP1)

CAUTION
Before using any compressed gas devices, follow the appropriate safety instructions
in order to prevent any accident. Besides, stay behind a protective screen during
the pressure increase.

 Remove the HP1 switch (refer to Replacing the HP switch section, on the next page)
 Inject nitrogen to increase the pressure.
 When the pressure reaches about 32 bar, the switch opens, releasing the pressure and
proving that it works.
- If the switch does not open, the switch will be defective and the pressure will
still increase. Do not exceed 35 bar, Close the regulator valve before.

Oil separator (Oasis 150 Fresh only)

The Oil separator (1) is :

- Used to separate the oil inside the refrigerant and the refrigerant
itself.
- installed on the discharge line of the compressor, between the
compressor and the condenser

Quench valve

The quench valve is a regulating valve which injects liquid refrigerant

into the compressor suction line to provide protection by maintaining
the discharge temperature below 132° C (270° F).
The regulation is done by the bulb (1) fixed on hose between
the compressor and the oil separator.
When the discharge temperature is greater than 132 °C (270
1 °F), fluid pressure is higher than spring force and the valve
opens allowing liquid refrigerant to flow to the compressor
During the engagement of the quench valve,
refrigeration performance decreases.

CARRIER TRANSICOLD PROPRIETARY

Condenser

The condenser (1) is a device used to condense the refrigerant

2 from its gaseous to its liquid state, cooling it.
4
A subcooler (2), used for the heat mode and the defrost mode, pass
through the condenser.

1 The condenser fan (3) circulates surrounding air over the outside
of the condenser tubes (4).
Heat transfer is thus established from the refrigerant gas that’s
flowing inside the tubes (4) to the condenser air flowing over
3 the tubes (4).
The condenser tubes have fins (5) designed to improve the
transfer of heat. This removal of heat causes the refrigerant to
liquefy.

5 2

CARRIER TRANSICOLD PROPRIETARY

Subcooler

The subcooler (1) is a device located in the condenser (2) which

2 subcools the liquid refrigerant. The liquid refrigerant flows into it after
having passed through the condenser (2).

The liquid refrigerant is cooled slightly below the saturation

temperature (∆T ≈ 2°C = 3.6°F) to ensure that no flash gas is formed
1 before the expansion valve.

The decreased vapour content also decreases the risk

of misdistribution in the evaporator.

This additional sub-cooling is best carried out in a separate sub-

cooler, because a high level of condensate inside the condenser may
disturb the stability and thus the performance of operation.

It increases the refrigeration power and thus the performance of

the installation.

The filter drier (1) ensure correct operation is to:
• To retain every impurity in the refrigerant fluid and thus
avoid a blocking at the expansion valve,
• The absorption of any humidity which may be contained in

3W-HGV explanation

Cool Mode The 3-way hot gas valve is installed only from the Oasis 150F to
the Oasis 250
Solenoid
The 3-way hot gas valve directs the fluid to the selected circuit and
coil
Compressor low is electrically commanded (with the solenoid coil) by the
pressure microprocessor.
- cool,
From - heat,
compressor - Defrost.

At stop, the 3-way hot gas valve is set to the heat

position. When the compressor is running, it is set to cool
To condenser position.
Heat / Defrost Mode With the solenoid coil de-energized, the valve is in the cool
operating mode and the refrigerant gas is diverted to the condenser.
When the solenoid coil is energized, discharge gas flows to
the evaporator for heating or defrost.
When energized, the solenoid plunger is lifted, allowing discharge
gas to fill the volumes above the piston assembly and also below it
To evaporator through the compressor discharge connection. The pressure on
From both sides of the piston assembly is now equal, and the piston
compressor spring exerts a force on top of the piston assembly and shifts it
downward. The condenser port is now closed and the evaporator
port is open.

Operation Cooling mode

Cooling mode explanation scheme unit by unit on the following pages :

 The compressor (1) recovers refrigerant gas and discharges high pressure “superheated” refrigerant gas to the condenser (2).
 The circulation of refrigerant into the condenser tubes through the air flow causes the liquefaction of the refrigerant (at constant pressure
and temperature). The refrigerant (100% liquid) leaves the condenser and is stored in the receiver (3).
 The receiver maintains a proper supply of liquid to the thermostatic expansion valve (4) regardless of the ambient temperature.
 The liquid is directed to the filter drier (5) after passing through the subcooler (6).
 The subcooler decreases the liquid refrigerant temperature at constant pressure.
 The filter drier is used to filter the liquid refrigerant: it must retain the solid particles, moisture and acids that can be present in the
refrigerant circuit. The fluid is then directed to the thermostatic expansion valve after passing through the heat exchanger (7).
 The heat exchanger is used to cool refrigerant gas by passing through the cold refrigerant coming from the evaporator (8) that is going to
the compressor. The liquid warms the cold gasses returning to the compressor. On the subcooler, liquid line and low pressure are connected
in opposite directions.
 The thermostatic expansion valve (4) controls the fluid expansion during its passage through the calibrated orifice. This expansion causes
an important decrease of the fluid pressure in the evaporator. This pressure drop allows the fluid to evaporate and creates a temperature
drop in the fins of the evaporator.
 The evaporator allows the heat exchange between the fluid and the air inside the body. The fluid at the evaporator outlet turns into
100% gas while the air of the box drops in temperature.
 This gas returns to the compressor passing through the heat exchanger and the accumulator (9).
 The refrigerant gas at low temperature and pressure enters the compressor pressure regulating (CPR) valve (10) which regulates
refrigerant pressure entering the compressor, where the cycle starts over again.

Heat & defrost modes

Heat & defrost modes explanation scheme unit by unit on the following pages :
For Oasis 150F refer page 175

For Oasis 350 refer page 177

 The compressor (1) recovers the gasses and discharges high pressure “superheated” refrigerant gas to the evaporator (4).
 The superheated refrigerant gas is used to heat the evaporator.
 The gas leaving the compressor is directed to the drain pan heater (3) when:
 The 3-way valve (2) which is set to the heat position by the microcontroller (Oasis 150F, 150, 250)
 The hot gas valve HGV1 (9) is opened and the main heat valve MHV (8) is closed (Oasis 350).

 For Oasis 150F /350, switching on the heating system allows pressurization of the receiver (5) in order to recover the maximum amount of
fluid stored in the receiver and the condenser (6). The large amount of fluid in the heating system improves the performance of heating by
hot gas.

 For Oasis 150/250, the opening of the valve HGV1 (7) allows suction of the fluid stored in the receiver (5) and the condenser (6) into the hot
gas circuit. The larger amount of fluid in the heating circuit improves the performance of heating by hot gas.

 The compressor is protected by the CPR which limits the compressor suction pressure.

 The main difference between heat and defrost modes is that:

 During the heat mode, ventilation continues to run, blowing the air around the heated coils to disperse the product temperature evenly.
 During the defrost mode, the ventilation is stopped. Only the battery of the evaporator is heated so that any frost and ice, which are
formed in the evaporator, melt and are vented to the outside. A clean (frost and ice free) evaporator has a better heat exchange capacity
and the performance is improved.

When the temperature of the bulb exceeds the value of 118
° C, the injection valve starts opening, it opens fully at 132 °
C.
The opening will result in:
 frost on the outlet tube of the injection valve
 an increase of the pressure read on LP gauge

If you do not see any of these phenomena, the

injection valve is stuck closed.
Replace the injection expansion valve.
If these events occur before the rise of the bulb
temperature to 118 ° C, the valve is stuck open.
Replace the injection expansion valve.

Temperature functioning control

To check the functioning of a Oasis, it is necessary to

install pressure gauges on the refrigeration circuit at
different points:
 Compressor (HP, LP)
 Receiver
 Evaporator

If the unit is stopped for a long time (> 3 hours, doors

opened), the pressure should be equal and correspond
to the ambient temperature.

7. Run the unit in COOLING mode (doors closed)

8. Check the setting of the CPR valve with a temperature of the
host unit > 15 ° C.
This setting must match the Carrier recommendations.
9. Calculate after 5 minutes of operation in cooling mode, the
temperature delta:
 ΔT (condenser) = Temperature at condenser – ambient
temperature

15 ° C < ΔT (condenser) < 20 ° C

10. Calculate the temperature delta:
 ΔT (evaporator) = Temperature in host unit - temperature at
evaporator

Unloader &
Operation (Oasis 350Manual
Service only)

Unloader Suction Pressure Transducer The compressor is equipped with an unloader for capacity
control.
This consists in a self-contained, cylinder head bypass
arrangement which is electronically controlled by the
microprocessor.
For each operating mode, a specific unloader equation
exists:
The microprocessor controls this operation according to the
suction pressure (via the SPT) and the ambient
temperature (via the ATS).
For more information about “SPT” and “ATS” Sensor :
Refer to the “Oasis Sensor” module
For a given ambient temperature, if the suction pressure
is below the equation value, the compressor will run in 6
cylinders, otherwise it will run in 4 cylinders.

During the start-up and defrost, the compressor runs in

4 cylinders.

Unloader

Not energized Energized

When the unloader is Energized (piston pulled back), and the cylinder is said to be unloaded at this point.

Please note that the suction gas is not compressed, but simply pumped through the bypass of the passage back to the compressor.
The gas for this cylinder, or a pair of cylinders, goes round and round, without going into the discharge line or system.

Glow plug: Preheating
Operation & Service Manual

Diesel engine Operation

The preheating time is defined by the engine temperature “WTS sensor”.

For more information about sensor :

Refer to the module “Oasis sensor”.

When the first start attempt failed, for the second and third attempt,
preheating times are extended by 5 seconds.

For use in very cold atmosphere, all the preheating times can be increased
by 30 second by using the function “ADD GLOW”. on cab command.

For more information about “ADD GLOW” :

Refer to the module “Oasis unit operation”.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE Glow time

Glow plugs used are short time glow plugs TV (11 Volts)
