Role of HRM’s
HRM stands for Human Resource Management and it “describes the people who work for a
company or the organization and department responsible for managing resources related to
employees”.

Human Resource Departments play a critical role in ensuring that the company adopts
Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Furthermore, HR can manage the CSR plan
implementation and monitor its adoption proactively, while documenting (and celebrating) its
success throughout the company.
CSR
It is a concept whereby organizations consider the interests of society, based on the impact
of their activities on consumers, employees, shareholders, communities and the
environment, for all aspects of their operations. While improving the quality of life of the
workforce and their families as well as the local community and society at large.

Needs of CSR

• Goodwill creation
• Legal claims
• Employee attraction
• Competition
• Investor relation
Benefits of CSR

1. Improvement of employee satisfaction:


Employees, especially generation Z are
proud of their own organization because
they believe they are contributing also to
the philanthropic and charitable activities

corporate culture: A company’s image
can either be improved or be degraded
considering their attitudes towards the
society. And it goes without saying that
their corporate culture can reflect their
CSR commitment and vice versa.
Corporate Social Responsibility program, including reducing the company’s carbon
footprint to benefit the planet. Start with these areas:

• Implement and encourage green practices.

• Foster a culture of social responsibility.

• Celebrate successes.

• Share and communicate the value of corporate social responsibility to employees and
the community. .
1. Implement and encourage green practices.

• Work with IT to switch to laptops over desktop computers. (Laptops consume up to


90% less power.)

• Increase the use of teleconferencing, rather than on-site meetings and trips.

• Promote brown-bagging in the office to help employees reduce fat and calories to
live healthier lives and reduce packaging waste, too.
2. Foster a culture of social responsibility.

Creating a culture of change and responsibility starts with HR. Getting the younger
employees, who are already environmentally conscious, excited about fresh
Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives is a great way to begin.

3. Share and communicate the value of corporate social responsibility to


employees and the community.

Employers can connect with their employees and the community through:

• Company matches to employee charitable contributions;

• Corporate sponsorship of community events; and

• Encouraging employees to participate in walkathons, food banks, and so forth.'

Google Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR)
 Energy Consumption by Google

Google data Centre consume 50% less energy compared to a typical data
Centre and it also purchases or produces 24% of renewable energy and
the company has 11% renewable electricity already on the grid, thus total
use of renewable energy accounts to 35%. The use of remaining 65%
energy which is non-renewable is neutralized by carbon offset projects.
More than 4 million square feet of Google buildings have achieved green
certification status by LEED. Apart from this Google has made an
agreement to invest more than USD1.5 billion in renewable energy projects
such as large-scale wind and rooftop solar panels.
 Water Consumption by Google
Google data Centre in Berkeley County, South Carolina alone uses about 4 million
gallons of surface water per day and From 2013 to 2015, the internet giant reduced
potable liters of water used per employee  by 30% at its Bay Area headquarters and
apart from this In total, six of Google’s operating data Centers have achieved 100%
landfill diversion, and one of these has reached Zero Waste to Landfill and company
has also has set regional water reduction targets for its offices in 2017.
 Waste Reduction and Recycling by Google
In 2015, Google has diverted 84% of waste from its global data center operations away
from landfills, and so far in 2016, it has diverted 86% and 19% of the servers Google
deployed were remanufactured machines and  52% of the components Google used
for machine upgrades in company data Centre were refurbished inventory
 Carbon Emissions by Google

The company has been carbon neutral since 2007 and Google’s ‘Commuting
Sustainably’ program keeps 5,700 cars out of the road and company shuttle program
and electric vehicle charging stations is equivalent to more than 87 million vehicle
miles annually.it has also increasing the range of its operations in cloud, a platform
that is carbon neutral with positive environmental implications. From 2009 to 2015,
the company’s carbon intensity per revenue (metric Tones Scope 1 and 2
CO2e/million USUSD) and per full-time equivalent employee both decreased by more
than 50%.
Godrej Consumer Products Limited ( CSR )

Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) is a consumer goods company under


the Godrej Group. As a leading emerging markets company it enjoys the patronage
of 1.2 billion customers globally. In the fiscal year 2020-21, Godrej Consumer
Products Ltd. (GCPL) spent Rs. 34.08 crore on its CSR initiatives and followings are
the field areas:-

Mahindra and Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd is the car manufacturing arm of the group of companies.
They are the world’s biggest tractor brand by volume, India’s biggest utility vehicle
producer. Mahindra & Mahindra’s CSR chamber comprises high ranking members
of their CSR committee.

The following are the CSR activities carried by various Mahindra Group
companies:

• KC Mahindra Education Trust : Mahindra & Mahindra, donates 0.5% of


their PAT to the KC Mahindra Education Trust, with a dream to change the lives
of individuals in India through instruction, by giving monetary help and
acknowledging individuals across age groups and economic status.
underprivileged girls. The Trust has given more than Rs 440 million as awards,
grants, and advance.
Nanhi Kali Project : Nanhi Kali is a program that supports instruction for the girl
child and is being controlled by the KC Mahindra Education Trust. The venture has
offered assistance to more than 370,000 bright young girls.

Lessening CO2 Emissions: Developing Bijlee: The Bijlee is inventive, home


developed, first-of-its-sort electric three-wheeler. The Bijlee is an imaginative “Kind
to Man” innovation, which was developed via Mahindra & Mahindra’s exchange fuel
program.
Public Health Initiatives
Under the aegis of Rise For Good, the Mahindra Group has conducted several public
health drives. These initiatives include:

1.Blood Donation Camps – Total 14 camps directed with 797 contributors 


2.Eye Donation and Awareness Camps
3.Eye Check-Up Camps- Many people are offered free eye testing 
4.Surgical Camps
5.Health Check-Up Camps
6.HIV/Aids Awareness Camps
Reliance

Reliance has taken up the initiative of securing the life of villagers of Balangir
district. They have a life insurance programme for them. The “Education for All”
initiative was launched to provide access to quality education in India to everybody.
They work to protect the right to education of underprivileged children, girl-child and
differently-abled. They also contribute to disaster relief funds.
P&G

Swasthya sakhi program: Help Initiate a Maternal & Child Health Community Project.
That can contribute to Employment, Entrepreneurship and Access to affordable
screening, diagnostics & digital health

P&G Shiksha : P&G Shiksha focuses on providing underprivileged children access to


holistic education. The prolonged school closure due to the pandemic has posed a
growing concern on learning and continuity of education, especially for
underprivileged children. During the past year, P&G Shiksha provided online
education to 50,000+ underprivileged children. Till date, P&G Shiksha has built and
supported more than 2,300 schools which will impact the lives of more than
20 lakh children.
Cafe Coffee Day: The beloved coffee shop, Cafe Coffee Day, employs 50 speech and
hearing impaired people at their various outlets as staff. They do this as a part of their CSR
activity as a move towards equal employment. They called them the ‘Silent Brew-masters’.
CCD also has tie-ups with NGO Enable India to empower differently-abled people. Their
biggest CSR initiative is the SVGH Vocational Training College in Chikmagalur, Karnataka.
