 These are simple structures built for local materials and available
tools to provide shelter for its inhabitants.
 Bahay kubo or Nipa Hut
 Bale
 Ivatan House
 Torogan
 Badjao’s Stilt houses and houseboats
Bahay Kubo

 Also known as kamalig.


 Serves as an icon to Filipino lowland and rural culture.
Bale or Ifugao House

 It is a one-room house with an attic for storage.


 Located at the contour of the rice terraces.

 Built with limestone walls, and cogon roofs.


 It has narrow doors and windows with wooden shutters and often
secured by wooden bars.
Torogan or Maranao House

 Literally means “a place for sleeping,”


 It is a slately house for the elite members of the Maranaotribe in
Mindanao.

 Badjao - sea gypsies of the Philippines, cruise
along the islands of Sulu.

 These are simple marine vessels made for


the transport of goods and people by sea
and other waterways in the surrounding
regions.

 Traditional boat mabe by Sama-Bajau (Badjao) and Moros living


in Sulu Archipelago, Zamboanga peninsula and southern
Mindanao.

 Piña fabric – Piña weaving it is the oldest
industry in Aklan.
 T’nalak woven cloth – woven by the
T’boli women of Lake Sebu, South
Cotabato, Mindanao, it represents the
tribe’s culture and tradition.

 Tingkep Baskets – handcrafted by the women
from fine bamboo strips and made in natural
colors. It is used in a ritual called Kundu.
 Hinabol – the production of the textile was
considered to be sacred to the Higaonon tribe.
it is woven as offering to the spirits and is
used to bring peace during tribal conflicts.

 Yakan- weaved cloth – made by Yakan
tribe from Basilan. Used for religious and
ritual purposes.
 Tapis of Kalinga Tribe – it is a costume
indigenous to the Kalinga and Apayao.
The garment was woven using a backstrap
loom and was embroidered with nature-
inspired patterns.

 Found in Ayub Cave in Pinol, Maitum, Saranggani Province.
 Pots were dated to the Metal Age (5 BC- 225 AD) and were used
for secondary burial.
