What are nerve cells called?

The brain stem is the part of the brain that controls the
functions of the internal organs.
Example: breathing, digestion, and pumping
of your heart

The column of nerve cells that extends
downward from the brain is the spinal
cord.
Carries messages to and from your brain
and all parts of your body.
Keeps your brain informed of changes in
your body and in your environment

by a myelin sheath
that increases the speed
of an impulse.
