INTRODUCTION TO
PHILIPPINE FOLK DANCE
Folk dances is a cultural art form handed from
one generation to another. It communicates the customs, beliefs and
occupation of the people of region or country. Folks dances
traditionally dances of a country which evolved naturally and
spontaneously in connection with everyday activities and experiences
of the people. These dances describe the traditions, belief,
occupations, ways of life and characteristics of people through body
movements.

When the Philippines discovered by Ferdinand Magellan, it had been
inhabited by different racial groups; Indonesians, Malay and
Pygmies.
For centuries, dancing have been principal past time of people. They
performed dances in thanks giving for fruit harvests, birth, love and
courtship for recovery from sickness.

activities of Filipinos.
Philippine folk dance mirrors the culture and tradition of the Filipinos. It
has also been a source of culture identify of the people. In this diversified
country, there are also great diversity of dances in different forms and
dynamics that grow out of various times, situation and experiences.
