ABSTRACT
“Paint is the simple, most effective, and most transformative way to change a space”
Painting is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a solid surface (called the "matrix" or
"support"). The medium is commonly applied to the base with a brush, but other implements, such as knives,
sponges, and airbrushes, can be used. The final work is also called a painting.
Painting a room or your whole house, inside or out, is a popular home improvement project. New paint can change
the mood of a space and increase the value of your property. Paint used around the home can be categorized in
several ways. This article will introduce some of the main categories used to describe paint for home use.
House painting is important for many reasons. Obviously, a good paint job beautifies and adds character and
personality to your home. Just for that reason, it is important to take sufficient time planning which colors, shades,
and paint styles you want to decorate your home with.
However, paint also serves as one of your home’s primary lines of defense against weather, insects and other
damage, so it is an important aspect of home maintenance to keep up on as well. There is not any set timeline
when you should plan to re-paint your home. It varies depending on climate, the quality of paint that was
previously applied, how thoroughly your home was prepped beforehand, and whether you hired a good painter.
PROBLEM OF STUDY
In the today’s world, people has a dream on buying their own house and implement their own ideas in it at the time
construction, people have more interest in decorating their house with more number of paints and interior designs.
In order to highlight the importance and benefits of painting this study is undertaken.
To analyze the awareness among the customers about their interest in painting and interior
design.
To know about the ideas expressed by the house owners and whether the engineers are satisfying
their needs.
RIVEW OF LITERATURE
Krista Doyle did the article on the topic “Turn your bedroom Into a Self-Care Sanctuary (May 19, 2019)” she
stated, “Over the past several years, more and more people have started to acknowledge the critical role that
mental health plays in our everyday lives. With that has comes the realization of the importance of self-care. If we
are unfamiliar with the term, self-care is simply any activity that we deliberately engage in to better our emotional,
mental, and physical health”. The average human spends one-third of their life sleeping, meaning that we spend at
least that much time in our bedrooms. For most of us, that number is even higher since bedrooms are not just for
sleeping we spend time in our rooms working, reading, or relaxing after a long day. In addition, it is no secret that
the spaces around us can affect our mood, so why wouldn’t we want to create a relaxing bedroom sanctuary that
promotes peacefulness and positivity?
This article was done by Kristin Whalen on the topic “Kitchen design (July 14, 2016)” When it comes to kitchen,
we generally think of additional storage, preparation and serving space in the kitchen. It can also serve as
additional seating in the room. The size and location of the island can really affect the efficiency of the kitchen if
done incorrectly. Islands that obstruct the flow of traffic to and from the sink, refrigerator, stove and primary
workstations can create blockages. How can we tell if an island will work in our kitchen? At minimum, we want to
leave 36” of floor space on the ends of the island and 42” of space between the working sides of the island. If there
are multiple cooks in the kitchen, a minimum 48” work aisle is recommended.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The feedback given by the respondents may or may not be true as expected.
The number of respondents is limited only to the house owners and paint shop owners.
SAMPLE SIZE
Sample size consists of 150 respondents using purposive sampling method. The respondents
include more number of paint shop dealers as they are aware of the customers acuity and the
engineers perception.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
The research uses purposive sampling technique and probaility method as we know the exact
population.
PAINTS CATEGORIZED BY USE
Paints can be categorized by the use sometimes this is important to know about when you need to choose the right
paint for the right job. At other times, you can extend the planned use of a particular paint to another purpose
without concern.
PAINTS
Over the course of history, the way artists have painted—and the mediums they use—have evolved. New
technology and changing tastes mean that the paints used by artists have continued to diversify. However, how do
you know which is the right type of paint for you? Many of us are familiar with watercolor, oil, and acrylic paint,
but there’s so much more out there for artists to explore. While some types of painting, like fresco and tempera,
aren’t practiced quite as frequently, others are seeing resurgence. For instance, a renewed interest in hand
lettering and sign painting has made enamel paint trendier than ever.
Artist’s paints can be 11types.
i. OIL
ii. ACRYLIC
iii. WATERCOLOR
iv. GOUACHE
v. PASTEL
vi. ENCAUSTIC
vii. FRESCO
viii. SPRAY PAINT
ix. INK WASH
x. TEMPERA
xi. ENAMEL

INTERIOR EXTERIOR
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR PAINTS
Interior and exterior paint are formulated differently because they have different conditions and situations. Interior
paint is made to be easy-to-clean and touch up when necessary. Exterior paint is prepared to be fade- and mildew-
resistant and flexible when the surface expands and contracts due to climate changes. The two types of paint are
specially formulated for their purposes, and are not interchangeable.
Interior paints need not worry about the elements like sunshine, snow, and rainfall apart from winds. This means
that there are changes in additives, pigments, solvents, and resins that are the main ingredients of any paint. There
is no danger of fading because of extreme temperature conditions, and there is no danger of mildew as interiors of
a home do not face the kind of wetness that the exteriors are exposed to.
Interior paints are made washable so as to clean spots and marks that get applied accidentally, especially by small
kids and pets at home. Interior paints contain less of pigments as they do not get faded because of harsh weather
conditions. Interior paints are made in such a manner that the small errors in painting remain hidden, especially the
roller and brush marks. They are also easy to clean and resistant to stains. One characteristic that makes interior
paints totally different from outdoor paints is that they can be cured without any exposure to sun light.
EXTERIOR PAINTS
Retention of color is the biggest challenge in the case of exterior paints as they have to withstand
harsh weather conditions. They must resist fading and must be flexible to be able to withstand
flexion and contraction that is common in open conditions outside the home.
Most exterior paints contain mildew resistant coating to prevent mildew formation because of
wetness in the air that comes in contact with the paint surface. Another thing that exterior paints
have is the presence of many types of fungicides, pesticides and mildewcides. Exterior paints
make very good use of sunshine to cure quickly. After all, they have to face and withstand the
torture of extreme temperatures later on.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTERIOR & EXTERIOR PAINTS
Though interior and exterior paints look similar, their chemical properties are vastly different as exterior
paint shave to withstand harsh weather conditions
Heat and snow can cause the exteriors to expand and contract, requiring flexion in the paint. This is not
required in interior paints.
Exterior paints have to be fade resistant as they face very high temperatures while there is no such
problem for interior paints
Interior paints need to be stain resistant and good at hiding brush and roller marks
Exterior paints need sunlight to cure while interior paints get cured without direct exposure to sunlight
While one can apply interior paint himself, hiring the services of professional painters is a must for a
decent application of exterior paints
Exterior paints contain many additives like pesticides and fungicides that are not required in interior
paints
More Resins are used in exterior paints, to bind the pigments to help paint retain its color.
