TYPES OF SELF
ME-SELF VS. I-SELF
REAL SELF VS. IDEAL SELF
MULTIPLE SELVES VS. UNIFIED SELVES
ONE SELF VS. MANY SELVES
TRUE SELF VS. FALSE SELF

WRITE A SITUATION SHOWING

THE CHARACTERICS OF THE
TYPES OF SELF
ME-SELF VS. I-SELF
The Me-self is the "socialized" you which is influenced by
social interactions. The I-self is the "born" you which is our
true self and is the response to the "me".
For example, an eighteen-year-old female goes with her
friends and one of them persuades her to drink alcohol. The
teenager's "me" self, reminds her of the legal drinking age and
that her parents will be very disappointed in her. The "I"
self, reassures her that one small taste won't harm her and that
she is having fun and doesn't want her friends to think she is
boring or scared. The two sides, the "I" and "me" battle for
understanding and choices. Ultimately, the "I" and "me"
create the self-concept.
REAL SELF VS. IDEAL SELF
The Real-self is who we truly are and the qualities we
believe we possess, whereas the Ideal-self is someone who we
want to be and a part of a person’s self-concept that consists of
their desires, hopes, and wishes.
For example, my ideal-self is becoming a student-athlete
who excels both in a particular sport and in academics.
However, my real-self is physically weak, easily gets
exhausted, and has difficulties coping up with online classes
which makes it challenging when combining it with
sports, which make me dissatisfied with my performance and
see myself as someone who will have a hard time achieving
my dreams.
MULTIPLE SELVES VS. UNIFIED
SELVES
Multiple selves refer to the different ways we engage with the
various situations in our lives, whereas Unified selves refer to our
self being tied to consciousness, awareness, and a sense of control.
For example, my multiple selves apply different styles of
interaction as a son, employee, or friend. I would act like a good son
by providing the needs of my parents, become a business-minded
person to think of innovative ways that will benefit the business, or
act like a childish person when I am with my friend. In my Unified
self, I am still able to recognize and play my roles and
responsibilities properly despite having multiple roles such as being
a son, employee, friend, and a student.
ONE SELF VS. MANY
Our One-self refers to the representation of one's identity on how
we perceive our
SELVES
behaviors, abilities, and unique
characteristics, whereas Many-selves refers to a person that possess
a multiple number of different selves who are all important and take
turns controlling the behavior triggered by various social roles and
different social events.
For example, beliefs such as "I am a good friend" or "I am a kind
person" are part of an overall one self-concept. For many-selves, my
behaviour varies to the situation that I am in. I become a shy person
towards someone I like, a hot-tempered person to someone I don't
like, a childish person to people I am comfortable with, or a formal
person when it comes to formal ocassions
TRUE SELF VS. FALSE SELF
When we refer to the true self-concept, we are referring
to a person’s own understanding of their true self.
When referring to the false self-concept, it refers to certain
types of false personalities that develop as a result of
early and repeated environmental failure. Resulting in the
true-self being hidden.
For example, the importance we place on family
relationships gives us a greater sense that their lives have had
meaning presents our true self. While what shows our
false self is when we think that, "If I have a lot of money, I am
more successful, or if I am handsome, I will be more likable."

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN ORGANIC AND

• Implies greater conformity  • Gives room for diversity
• More embedded ties • Less embedded ties
WHAT DOES EACH MOTIVATION
OF THE GROUP MEAN?
Organic motivations imply less personal freedom and greater social
conformity coupled with increased personal and social certainty. It is when you
join a community because your parents are a part of it in the first place which
gives you the feeling of belongingness and rootedness as the foundation of the
social network runs deep.

Rational motivations are prevalent in the modern society and imply greater
personal freedom, less emotional investment, possible anomie and role
conflict. It is when different people from different places or backgrounds with
shared interests collaborate with each other of their own free will.
HOW DO WE RELATE IT TO
THE CASE OF BRENDA AND
     The positive DAVID?
effect of organic group is
rootedness which gives the person a sense of
belongingness. This means that the gender
preference and identity of a person is not
malleable to what the society dictates. Although
David was inserted with female hormones and his
sexual organ was re-arranged, it was seen to his
testimony that the unexplainable desire to be a
man was already felt in his childhood. He did not
feel like a real woman and all his actions and
behaviour had masculine tendencies which is why
when he found out the truth about him, he
decided to take the name of David and underwent
mastectomy.
WHAT MORAL LESSON CAN
WE LEARN OUT FROM THAT
CASE STUDY?
The case study teaches us how much people
are harmed by being lied to and treated in
inhumane ways. We cannot predict with absolute
certainty, what gender identity a person will grow
up to have. Children who are treated with shame,
secrecy, and lies will suffer at the hands of medical
providers who may think they have the best of
intentions and the best of theories. It is also a right
of a person to know the truth about the gender
identity of his/her self because being lied to about
what a person is will lead to mental issues which
greatly affect a person’s whole life caused by the
decisions of others.
