● ORGANIZATIONAL ERGONOMICS:
organisational structure, policies and
processes
Objectives of Ergonomics
● Improve the efficiency of operation by taking into
account a typical person’s size, strength, speed, visual
acuity, physiological stressors, such as fatigue, speed of
decision making and demands on memory and
perception.
● To maximize productivity while lowering risk of
Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD)
○ MSD develops as a result of long term exposure to combination
of ergonomics risk factors such as repetition, high forces and
awkward posture.
■ Examples of MSD include carpal tunnel syndrome,
tendonitis and back disorder.
Effects of Ergonomics
● Classification of ergonomic injury
○ Cumulative Trauma Disorder
■ Tendon disorder
■ Nerve Disorder
■ Neurovascular Disorder
○ Strains/ Sprains
■ Lifting heavy objects in awkward
position
Ways to prevent ergonomic injuries
