Q.3. Write the chemical formulas for the following salts:

i Magnesium acetate iii ii Cuprous iodide iv
Potassium oxalate v Cobalt (II) chloride vi
Manganese phosphate vii Mercuric sulphate viii
Ferric nitrate ix Calcium sulphite x
Strontium sulphate Barium nitrite
Q 4. Case based question -
All chemical changes are accompanied by chemical reactions. In these, reacting species
(atoms/molecules) react under certain specified conditions to form products. The chemical reactions
are expressed in the form of chemical equations in terms of symbols and formulae of the substances
involved. These reactions involve simply the exchange of partners in the reactants to form products.
This can happen in a number of ways leading to different types of reactions such as combination,
decomposition, displacement, redox etc. One such example is preparation of oxygen gas in the
laboratory by heating a mixture of KClO3 and MnO2 in the ratio of 4:1 by mass. The mixture must
be first heated gently so that the reactants may mix and then heated strongly. Oxygen gas evolved as
a result of the reaction is collected over water.
Answer the following questions:
1. Preparation of oxygen in the laboratory
is which type of reaction?
2. What is the use of manganese dioxide
in the above reaction?
3. What is an oxidizing and reducing agent?
Is potassium chlorate an oxidizing agent
or reducing agent?
4. Can liquefaction of air be called as
a chemical change? Give reason.
Q5. A, B and C are three elements which undergo chemical reactions according to the
following equations. Find out the most reactive and least reactive element giving
i) A2O 3 +2B ^ B2O3 + 2A ii) 3CSO 4 + 2B ^ B2(SO4) 3 + 3C iii) 3CO+ 2A^ A 2O 3 + 3C Q6. A
reason.
compound X is bitter in taste. It is a component of washing powder & reacts with dil.HCl to
produce brisk effervescence due to colourless, odourless gas Y which turns lime water milky due to
the formation of Z. When excess of CO 2 is passed, milkiness disappears doe to formation of P.
Identify X, Y, and Z & P.

Q7. 2 Bhawna took a pale green substance A in a test tube and heated it over the flame of a burner. A
brown coloured residue B was formed along with evolution of two gases with burning smell of
sulphur. Identify A & B. Write the chemical reaction involved.
Q8. An aqueous solution of metal nitrate P reacts with sodium bromide solution to form yellow ppt
of compound Q which is used in photography. Q on exposure to sunlight undergoes decomposition
reaction to form metal present in P along with reddish brown gas. Identify P&Q. Write the
chemical reaction & type of chemical reaction.

Reason: The graph of linear equations a1x+b1y+c1=0 and a2x+b2y+c2=0 gives a pair of intersecting lines if a 1/a2
f b1/b2
