ABSTRACT

 Electric cars are considered a new technical green product

and a potential industry for many countries. This project is
aimed developing  of  simulink code for power calculations
for  heavy electric vehicle.
INTRODUCTION

• Simulink, an add-on product to MATLAB, provides an

interactive, graphical environment for modeling, simulating,
and analyzing of dynamic systems. It enables rapid
construction of virtual prototypes to explore design concepts at
any level of detail with minimal effort.

• It is integrated with MATLAB, enabling you to incorporate

MATLAB algorithms into models and export simulation
results to MATLAB for further analysis.
Objectives
• Graphical editor for building and managing hierarchical block
diagrams.
• Libraries of predefined blocks for modeling continuous-time
and discrete-time systems.
• Simulation engine with fixed-step and variable-step ODE
solvers.
• Scopes and data displays for viewing simulation results.
• Project and data management tools for managing model files
and data
• Model analysis tools for refining model architecture and
increasing simulation speed
• MATLAB Function block for importing MATLAB algorithms
into models
Methodology
• Used to model , analyze and simulate dynamic systems using
block diagrams.
• Simulink is a graphical, "Drag and Drop" environment for
building simple and complex signal and system dynamic
simulations – therefore is easy to use.
• It allows users to concentrate on the structure of the problem,
rather than having to worry about a programming language
           Design calculations

       Design requirements
         Weight  9021N
          Speed   30kmph
           Design calculations

       Design requirements
         Power required

  P=FxV
    F= Total Force
    V= Velocity of the vehicle
    F= F total =  F gradient+ F rolling + F aerodynamic drag
           Design calculations

       Design requirements

      Force due to climbing hills ( F gradient )

   Fh = W sin Φ                  (Angle of incline  Φ  is 1)

       = Mg sin Φ = W sin Φ
       = 9021 x sin 0.017
       = 153.3 N
           Design calculations

       Design requirements
   Fr= CrW cosΦ   (for asphalt roads Cr =0.004)
      = 0.004 x 9021 x cos 0.017
      = 36.08 N

   Fd  = 0.5 ρ Cd  A V2

 (Cd    value is 0.8 for frontal area A=1.05 m2, ρ density of air 1.2 kg/
m3 )
        = 0.5 x (1.2) x 0.8 x 1.05 x 6.9 x 6.9
        = 24 N
           Design calculations

       Design requirements

   Total  force  on the vehicle

   F   =  Fh  +  Fr   +  Fd
        = 153.3 + 36.08 + 24
        = 213.38 N

   Power required = F x V=213.38 x 6.9 = 1473 Watts

   So we select 1500 watt motor
