IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY
Safety is important because –
• Accidents cause pain and sufferings.
• Accidents are costly.
• Accidents lower morale and decrease productivity.
• Accidents reflect poorly on the management.
• Cost of prevention of accident is lower than cost of
handling them (after they have occurred).
CURRENT SCENARIO OF INCIDENTS /
ACCIDENTS IN OUR ORGANIZATION
• Total 37 Accident / Incidents has been
observed since last 41st Safety Week.
• Total 09 has been reported out of 37
•Total 28 are unreported out of 37
• Total cost to the company for the treatment
given after incidents / accidents is Rs. 80,000/-
• Total cost of approx 74 working man days.
LETS HAVE A LOOK AT
SOME OF INCIDENTS /
ACCIDENTS WERE
REPORTED
Incident No. 1
Right leg got fracture of labor due to leg came
in-between mould and mould carrier trolley.
Probable Root Cause : Poor supervision for critical

activities and BYPASS the emergency switches.
Preventive Action Taken : Training given for use of emergency

switch and instructed supervisor for more vigilant for
supervision ensure the safe working act and conditions.
Similar Incident occurred while cleaning of slab laminating

roller and hand goes in-between 2 roller due to not use of
emergency switch.
Incident No. 2
While doing welding work on dust collector
employee affected with eye irritation.
Probable Root Cause : Escaped use of safety gadgets for
welding work due to work on height. Work permit were not
initiated for such types of work.
Preventive Action : Work permit system has to be follow strictly.

Adequate safety gadgets are available for use not to keep
stored.
Similar Incidents for eye irritation also

reported previously.
Incident No. 3
EOT crane lifting hook fall down due to
lifting rope got broken.
Probable Root Cause : Preventive action may not initiated
timely after realized the possibility of incident during the daily
check before start operation.
Preventive Action : Preventive action / maintenance has to be carried

out frequently and as and when it is not safe. EOT has to be tested by
Chartered Engineer for its capacity and the errors at least once in a
year.
Similar Incidents occurred already due to
malfunctioning of EOT and broke of lifting wire rope.
Incident No. 4
Eye got injured due to dust goes into eye.
Probable Root Cause : Employee was cleaning his cloth using

compressed air and by pressure of compressed air the dust
particle entered into to the eye.
Preventive Action : Use of compressed air for cloth cleaning has

to be restricted or safety gadgets to be used during such
activity.
Such types of act is harmful to eye as well as ear which are so

important organs in human body and very sensible and not
have replacement.
Incident No. 5
Finger got injured while doing packing
work.
Probable Root Cause : Employee was doing packing work using
paper cutter to cut the adhesive tape and cutting target shifted
to his finger was holding the packing thing.
Preventive Action Taken : Training given for safe packing

practice and use of tape roller dispenser as a replacement of
paper cutter.
Such types of incident was also observed

many more times.
