WHAT IS EGO ?
• Feeling with a sense of self importance
• psychology - The most central part of the mind , which mediates with one's
surroundings.
• Id, Ego , SuperEgo
• Etymolgy : Ego is the Latin word for "I." So if a person seems to begin every
sentence with "I", it's sometimes a sign of a big ego.
SIGNS WHICH SHOW THAT YOU HAVE AN EGO
PROBLEM
• You detest criticism
• Your ego is at play if you never want anyone to criticize you.
• You constantly compare yourself to others and feel you are better than them.
• You tend to interrupt others a lot
• People with ego problems tend to value only their own opinions.
• You love to take the credit for success.
• You are too defensive
• If you always turn subtle disagreements into a fight, your ego may be a little fragile.
EGOLESSNESS
• Lack of Ego : In psychology, egolessness is an emotional state where one feels no
ego (or self); of having no distinct being apart from the around world and oneself.
• According to our Vallalar , ego (Aanavam) can be erased completely only by
Divinity .
• If we dive deep into Egolessness, we will have at more on spiritual philosophies
• In some forms of meditation in Asian religions, egolessness is a mental state that is
sought after.
• IS IT POSSIBLE FOR 100 % EGOLESSNESS ?
• YES, It’s possible and is achieved from meditation and other good practices
• While at the basic levels, meditation is geared toward relaxation, the practice of advanced
meditators may be aimed toward the purpose of dividing one from their awareness of "self," to a
certain degree

CAN YOU TELL CO-RELATION BETWEEN “EGO VS KNOWLEDGE” ?

• Ego can lead to many negative human traits including
• Criticising
• Judging others
• Being inflexible and rigid,
• Having severe mood swings,
• Possessing a constant need for praise and approval,
• Need to feel superior to everyone around,
• Feeling fearful, anxious,
• Being uncooperative,
STEPS TO AVOID EGO
• Ego is one of the reasons why people tend to fail even though they are talented and hard
working.
• Ego can destroy everything if not controlled.
• “Love is happy when it is able to give something. Ego is happy when it is able to take
something”.
DO SOMETHING NICE FOR A SUBORDINATE
• Go out of your way to do something nice for your team member or even a stranger on the
street.
• It will help oneself be more humble.
• Even a random act of kindness will make you feel so good, you’ll hopefully forget all
about your ego.
TELL SOMEONE SOMETHING YOU’VE BEEN
KEEPING IN FOR LONG
• A lot of times, we don’t tell someone what we really feel because our ego doesn’t permit
us to express our true views.
• Try and be your genuine self for a change and see where it takes you!
• Be honest about reviews and have the courage to open it up directly.
LET OTHERS TALK!
• Let someone else complete their chain of thought and actually step back and hear them
out.
• Hear out other people opinions and think thoroughly before taking decisions.
• That will open them up more and improves trust.
LISTEN
• Don’t just pretend to listen, because that’s not helping anyone.
• In fact, listen to understand, not to reply.
• This will help to learn new things too.
• What’s the point if everyone talks, no ones listening?
STEP DOWN IF YOU HAVE TO
• If encouraging someone else means that you need to step down, then do it!
• Stepping down definitely helps in curbing the ego and facing reality.
• This is the real test for the ego of a person.
• This makes a person think about the “we” part and not the “I” part.
COMPLIMENT SOMEONE
• Appreciate someone else’s work often, give credit when credit is due and compliment
someone whenever you get the chance!
• These actions will help you stay rooted and will make the opposite person more confident
and proactive in their approach.
• It boosts the confidence of both the person who gives the compliment and the one who
receives the compliment.
PUT YOURSELF IN THE OTHER PERSON’S SHOES
• Egoistic people cannot see anything beyond themselves.
• Especially in a specific situation, it is imperative to see things from both sides of the
spectrum.
• This way, one can make a fair decision.
STOP COMPLAINING
• Life is amazing if you look at it positively.
• So, stop complaining and be grateful for what you have.
• That’ll help you stay grounded.
• Thinking about how to improve oneself is way better than complaining about the
improvement of others.
EMBRACE THE ART OF LETTING GO
• Hanging on to something will only keep you from going ahead in life.
• Your ego will also feed on this emotion and that’ll just put you on a negative trip.
• Just let things go and you’ll feel much lighter than before.
• Don’t let ego destroy what you’ve taken years to build—your awesome personality!
• There’s no harm in having a good amount of self-respect. But ego? That’s a different
ballgame altogether. Make sure you know the diff!
DOWNSIDES OF ‘EGOLESSNESS’
SIGMUND FREUD'S PSYCHOANALYTIC THEORY

• According to Sigmund Freud, personality is composed of three elements: the id, the ego,
and the super-ego.
• The id compels people to act on their most basic urges and the superego strives for
adherence to idealistic standards, the ego is the aspect of personality that must strike a
balance between these baser urges, moral standards, and the demands of reality.
• When it comes to mental well-being, ego strength is the word which is often used to
describe an individual's ability to maintain their identity and sense of self in the face of
pain, distress, and conflict.
EGO FUNCTIONS
• Any mental act by which you mediate between your raw desires for immediate pleasure
and your super‐ ego—the oughts and shoulds you’ve learned from family and society—is
an ego function.
• They enable you to say No to the demands of your parents, your teachers, or government
when those demands would jeopardize your own best interest.
• They also have a mediator’s sense of when to say Yes. They can negotiate among your
desires and your super‐ego so that you can gain the pleasure you want in a way that
causes no harm and can actually do a great deal of good.
ADVANTAGES OF WELL-DEVELOPED EGO
FUNCTIONS
If your ego functions are healthy and well‐coordinated,
• they give you a consistent sense of priorities as to which forms of happiness are more
worthwhile than others;
• a clear sense of where your responsibilities do and don’t lie;
• a strong sense of your ability to judge right and wrong for yourself; and
• an honest sense of how to learn from your past mistakes for the sake of greater happiness
in the future.
A person with well-developed ego is resilient, optimistic, and has a strong sense of self .
They more often:
• Take a learning approach to life that increasingly grows their strength and confidence in
handling triggering situations.
• Have an ability to tolerate discomfort , enough to regulate their emotions as opposed to
feeling overwhelmed by them
• Let others solve their own problems, as necessary.
• Approach life overall with a curiosity and readiness to explore and to master what
strengthens them, thus, increasing their chances of finding new ways of coping with
challenges.
• They tend to be confident in their ability to deal with challenges.
• They are good at coming up with solutions to life's problems
STRUGGLES OF LOW EGO STRENGTH

• Individuals with low ego strength struggle to cope in the face of problems and may try to
avoid reality through wishful thinking, substance use, and fantasies.
• Low ego strength is often characterized by a lack of psychological resilience. In the face
of life's challenges, those with low ego strength may simply give up or break down.
• Anyone who tried to abandon ego functioning would arrest his psychological growth and
lose all hope of becoming a mature, responsible, trustworthy adult. And as we know, self‐
destructive people don’t destroy only themselves. They can pull down many of the people
and places around them.
CASE STUDY FOR EGO
WHAT IS A CASE STUDY?

• A case study is an in-depth study of one person, group, or event. In a case study, nearly
every aspect of the subject's life and history is analyzed to seek patterns and causes of
behavior.
• Case studies can be used in a variety of fields including psychology, medicine, education,
anthropology, political science, and social work.
CASE STUDY ON EGO
Boss- I regret hiring an unworthy employee like you!
Employee A- We hire people similar to what we are, thank you and I quit!
Employee B- Sorry sir, I am really sorry, this won't happen again sir, I did this, I did that,
this job is everything to me and blah blah blah blah.
Employee C- Stares at boss's face with a blank look for a few seconds and goes away.
 Now A has a high ego, C has a normal ego and B has low ego.
Let's see what happens next-
RESULT
• A will struggle with circumstances for a while but would maintain high self esteem.
• B will stay in the company, he gave his boss a positive stimulation to ill treat him and will
be treated similarly every time.
• C gave boss a simple yet strong message, a fear of retaliation would be created in boss's
subconscious mind, which will make him/her think twice before insulting C from next
time.
LOW EGO
• Having low ego means that whenever someone insults you or hurts you, you would
forgive them or apologise and give them a positive stimulation to repeat their act.
• You would be good in initiating talks as you won't care for cold responses.
• You would be approachable and easy to use as well.
• You can be a dumping ground of other people's frustration.
HIGH EGO

• Having a high ego means, you can't take “no” for an answer.
• You would leave anything and everything without thinking even once if your ego is hurt.
• You may scare away most people including loved ones.
• Also you may suffer more in life than other common people.
• You will always keep your head and self respect high and would be proud of that even if
you don't have a rupee in your pocket.
WELL-BALANCED EGO
• Medium ego is the best option where people will respect you as well as interact with you
with freedom.
• Also anyone would think twice before insulting you.
• Your life won't stop again and again because of your over defensive (offensive) nature.
