    The same way particular verbs can be followed by a passive gerund (-ing) form: (being + past
    participle)

    I hate being told what to do.


    I remember being taken to the room immediately.

    There are also some cases when you have to use different tenses in a verb pattern exercise

    He managed to complete the task on time. to complete (easy)


    He appears to have known the secret before I told him. to have known (perfect tense)
