Experts can sometimes be contacted by email and information, whether it is
addresses, phone numbers, or detailed specifics on a certain subject, can be
accessed on the World Wide Web. Search Engines have become the most
important tools in locating this information, so it is important to know how to use
them effectively.

Search skills can be developed through practice in using the search engines and by
reading the help pages provided by the search engines themselves. Over time,
you will learn which search engine is good for pulling up what kind of information.

Google Search Engine

 Google Search is a search engine provided and operated by Google. Handling


more than 3.5 billion searches per day, it has a 92% share of the global search
engine market.
 It is the most-visited website in the world. Additionally, it is the most searched
and used search engine in the entire world.
 Oftentimes, marketers focus heavily on Google when vying for traffic. This
makes sense considering Google is undoubtedly the most popular search
engine.

 Apart from powering their own search results, Google also provides the search
results for a wide array of other engines, including the old favorite Ask.com.

 What made Google the most popular and trusted search engine is the quality
of its search results. Google is using sophisticated algorithms to present the
most accurate results to users.

 Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, came up with the idea that
websites referenced by other websites are more important than others and
thus deserve a higher ranking in the search results.

Bing Search Engine

 The best alternative search engine to Google is Microsoft Bing. Bing’s search
engine share is between 2.83% and 12.31%.

 Bing is Microsoft’s attempt to challenge Google in search, but despite their


efforts, they still did not manage to convince users that their search engine can
be as reliable as Google.

 Their search engine market share is constantly low even though Bing is the
default search engine on Windows PCs.

 Bing originated from Microsoft’s previous search engines (MSN Search,


Windows Live Search, Live Search), and according to Wikipedia is the #26 most
visited website on the Internet.

Yahoo Search Engine

 Yahoo is one of the most popular email providers, and its web search engine
holds third place in search with an average of 1% market share.

 From October 2011 to October 2015, Yahoo search was powered exclusively by
Bing. In October 2015, Yahoo agreed with Google to provide search-related
services, and until October 2018, the results of Yahoo were powered both by
Google and Bing.

 Yahoo is also the default search engine for Firefox browsers in the United States
(since 2014).

 Yahoo’s web portal is very popular and ranks as the 9th most visited website on
the Internet

Google Workspace
 Google Workspace is a collection of cloud computing, productivity and
collaboration tools, software and products developed and marketed by Google.

 It consists of Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, Meet and Chat for


communication; Currents for employee engagement; Drive for storage; and
the Google Docs Editors suite for content creation.

 An Admin Panel is provided for managing users and services.

 Google Docs is an online word processor included as part of the free, web-
based Google Docs Editors suite offered by Google, which also includes Google
Sheets, Google Slides, Google Drawings, Google Forms, Google Sites and
Google Keep.

 Google Docs is accessible via an internet browser as a web-based


application and is also available as a mobile app on Android and iOS and as
a desktop application on Google's ChromeOS.

 Google Docs allows users to create and edit documents online while
collaborating with other users in real time.

 Google Docs supports opening and saving documents in the


standard OpenDocument format as well as in Rich text format,
plain Unicode text, zipped HTML, and Microsoft Word. Exporting to PDF is
implemented.

 Google Sheets is a spreadsheet application included as part of the free, web-


based Google Docs Editors suite offered by Google.

 Google Sheets is available as a web application; a mobile app for: Android, iOS,
and as a desktop application on Google's ChromeOS. The app is compatible
with Microsoft Excel file formats.

 The app allows users to create and edit files online while collaborating with
other users in real-time.

 Edits are tracked by which user made them, along with a revision history.
Where an editor is making changes is highlighted with an editor-specific color
and cursor.

 Google Sheets serves as a collaborative tool for cooperative editing of


spreadsheets in real time.

 Documents can be shared, opened, and edited by multiple users


simultaneously and users can see character-by-character changes as other
collaborators make edits. Changes are automatically saved to Google's servers
and a revision history is automatically kept so past edits may be viewed and
reverted to.

 Google Slides is a presentation program included as part of the free, web-based


Google Docs Editors suite offered by Google.

 Google Slides is available as a web application, mobile app for: Android, iOS,
and as a desktop application on Google's ChromeOS.

 The app is compatible with Microsoft PowerPoint file formats.

presenting changes.

 Google Slides serves as a collaborative tool for cooperative editing of

by-character changes as other collaborators make edits.
