School health programmes
Definition
School health refers to the state of complete physical, mental,
social and spiritual well being and not merely the absence of
disease or infirmity among pupils, teachers and other school
personals.
School health service is defined:
School health service refers to need based comprehensive service
rendered to the pupils, teachers and other personals in the school to
promote and protect their health, prevent and control disease and
maintain their health.
School health programmes
Ultimately aims of school health programmes
is to promote, protect and maintain health of
the school children and reduce morbidity and
mortality in them.

Eye health
Health education
Education of handicapped children
Maintenance and use of school health records
Health appraisal of school children and
school personals
periodical health examination of school children, teachers and other
personals.
Medical examination on entry
Routinely physical examination needs to be done.
Clinical examination for nutrition deficiency, stool examination
Tuberculin testing, screening annual testing of vision, regular and
quarterly wt and ht checking.
Daily morning inspection by the teacher of unusual flushed face,
rashes, spots, signs of acute cold, coughing, sneezing, sore throat,
rigid neck, nausea, vomiting, watery eyes headache, chills, fever etc
Remedial measure and follow up
Good nutrition is very essential not only for optimal health growth
and development of school child but also for their educational
achievements.
First Aid and emergence care
School must be have arrangement of first aid and emergence care to
children who get injured or sick at the school.
The teachers should receive adequate training during teacher training
program or in service training program to prepare them selves to
carry out this obligation.
Mental health &Dental health
Mental health
Mental health of children affect their physical health and learning process.
Juvenile delinquent, mal adjustment and drug addiction are becoming problem
among school children. So teacher need to plan and organize well balanced
curriculum activities so that students are not over burdened and sufficient relaxation
and recreation.
Dental health
School children often suffer dental disease and defects.
School health should incorporate dental health component.
Dental health and denturist should be employed
During dental check up should focus on prophylaxis cleaning and dental hygiene
classes
