HEAMOCARE Iron protein succinylate

TREATMENT OF IDA
OBJECTIVE
• Correction of the disorder causing the anemia.
• Correction of iron deficiency.
• To restore the hemoglobin level to normal and
• To restore the exhausted iron store.

COMMONLY USED IRON SALTS

• Salts Elemental iron content
• Ferrous Sulphate 30%
• Ferrous Gluconate 12%
• Ferrous Fumarate 33%
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
ORAL Parenteral route, either intramuscular
or intravenous.
IRON
HEAMOCARE

General Characteristics
HEAMOCARE (Iron Proteinsuccinylate) is an
iron compound for oral treatment of iron
deficiency anemia.

HEAMOCARE is an iron Protein complex in

which iron is steadily bound to a succinylate
casein with a solubility behavior strictly
related to the pH modification.
HEAMOCARE

General Characteristics
Due to this characteristic HEAMOCARE has
the advantage, over common iron salts, of
precipitating in the acidic gastric
condition, keeping iron bound and of
becoming soluble at natural or alkaline pH,
thus allowing iron to be absorbed in the
small intestine.
HEAMOCARE

Absorption
• HEAMOCARE (IPS) is a proprietary form of ferric iron bound
with a chemically modified protein (Casein) in a process
called “Succinylation“ which dramatically stabilizes the
complex.

• This process is used to modify the solubility or hydrolysis in

terms of pH which is insoluble at pH values below 5
(stomach environment) while soluble at pH value above
7(intestine environment).
HEAMOCARE

Pharmacological Profile

IN HEAMOCARE the most important physical

and chemical characteristics of the
compounds are :
1. Solubility at alkaline pH.
Insolubility at acidic pH.
HEAMOCARE

Mode of Action
In the stomach (pH below 4), the iron contained in HEAMOCARE remains almost “
enclosed” within the protein envelope, and therefore protected against the acidic and
peptic action of gastric juice.

Therefore HEAMOCARE, as it does not free ferric ion, does not damage the lining, thus
avoiding burning, pain etc. (side effects that are characteristic of all iron-based
preparations

Having reached the intestinal lumen (duodenum and jejunum) the compound dissolves
as it is surrounded by an alkaline environment pH above 7);
HEAMOCARE

Toxicology
According to the toxicological finding HEAMOCARE has
shown a very good tolerability.

Research demonstrates that HEAMOCARE IPS provides a

steady controlled release of iron in a low concentration
form, the possibility of toxic iron overload is impossible .
HEAMOCARE

Side effects

Diarrhea,
Nausea
Epigastric pain,
