(Pages 136 – 148)
Memory
Lesson 11 Memory Verse Verse:
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.”
6 Basic Facial Expressions
- these facial expressions convey distinct
universal emotions.
According to Paul Ekman these are the six
universal emotions:

😊 😞😟😢 😤😧 😱 😖😒 😮😲
*happiness, sadness, anger, fear, disgust, and
surprise.
6 basic facial expressions
- they are the same for every person, regardless
of culture or race.
The “Other” emotions
Apart from the six universal emotions, there are
other emotions such as love, shame, or pity
these are emotions that has no universal
indicators.
IQ (Intelligence Quotient) alone cannot determine how
successful a person will become in life. To be truly a
complete person, one must also develop his/her
emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions; apart from
the intellect.
EQ (Emotional quotient) one of its key component is
self awareness or simply put, the ability to “recognize a
feeling as it happens.” You must realize whatever
harmful emotions that you may have to prevent
causing emotional damage to the people that you love.
Self- awareness is basically very important. If you
are aware of your emotions you are able to control
whatever emotions that is. You can decide whether
you want to keep that emotion or replace it with
something else.
Emotional Triggers
Socrates “Know Thyself”
Martin Luther King Jr., “Speak when you are angry--
and you will make the best speech you’ll ever
regret.”
Emotional Management is very important because
emotions not properly managed may negatively affect ones
relationship with others.
Negative effects of anger
1.Tend to focus on a particular thing that you are angry
about.
2.You are not in control of yourself
3.Makes you forget everything else.
4.Your mind turns down all reasons and concentrates on
what is negative about that moment.
Important things to remember when you’re angry:
1. Distance yourself from the person whom you are angry.
So you can prevent yourself from doing or saying to that
person anything which you may soon regret.
2. Try calming down by challenging your anger.
1.) Why am I so angry?
2.) Is there something to be angry about?
3.) Can I not just deal with this without anger?
In this manner, you are allowing your mind to regain control
of your emotions by using your reason and by asking your
anger to justify itself.
3.Try to have an open mind about the situation.
1.)Maybe she did not mean to do it.
2.)Maybe she is just having a bad day.
3.)Maybe she had a good explanation.
By taking another person’s perspective, you
difuse the source of your anger and begin to
empathize with your “enemy.”
When sadness becomes depression
If you stay in your sadness too long, you do not only miss
exciting things, but you also alienate your friends and family
who want to spend time with you.
What is the cure for sadness?
1.Avoid sulking or thinking about your sadness too much.
2.Try to distract yourself. Look for things that make you
laugh and smile. Surround yourself with a positive external
environment.
3.Open yourself up to others. For sadness to go away, turn
to the healing power of love and friendship.
When Anxiety Becomes Panic
Worrying about things is actually useful for you.
Being anxious about your health prompts you to see
a doctor. Anxiety is your natural alarm system. It
reminds you of things that you should be doing or be
concerned about.
The only problem with anxiety happens when it
already becomes too everwhelming.
How to prevent yourself from worrying too much?
1.Learn to get rid of nervous tension.
2.Relaxation does not mean forgetting the things that
you are worrying about, for these things need to be
addressed eventually. To do so, you need to be calm
and composed beforehand.
3. Focus on the more important and urgent tasks first.
if you think about those which you can tackle one at a
time, your worries will begin to diminish as you get to
accomplish each task.
GOD BLESS!!!
