Key Stages in the K to 12 Curriculum

Key Stage 1 – Kindergarten to Grade 3

Key Stage 2 – Grades 4-6
Key Stage 3 – Grades 7-10 (JHS)
Key Stage 4 – Grades 11-12 (SHS)
Content Standard
Broad statements that describe specific content
areas that groups of students should learn at
each grade level. They define the knowledge
within each discipline.

These standards are also called Curriculum

Standards or Subject Standards.
Content Standard
Performance Standards.
Expectations for instruction, assessment, and student work.

These incorporate Content Standards and define the level

of work that demonstrates achievement of the standards.
Performance standards isolate and identify skills needed
for problem-solving, reasoning, communicating, and
making connections with other information. They provide
all constituents with the evidences that students have met
the content standards, helping teachers define what level of
work is satisfactory.
Performance Standards
Learning Competencies
These are more specific applied knowledge,
skills, and values that indicate or validate
learning consistent with the broader content
and performance standards.
Learning Competencies
Enabling Competencies
These were taken from the K to 12
Curriculum Guide which teachers shall use
in bridging the lessons especially in reaching
and targeting the Most Essential Learning
Competencies (MELC).
Budget of Work (BOW) - It is a matrix of
the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum
competencies, skills, and objectives; topics
for specific skills and competencies; and
suggested teaching and assessment
strategies arranged in columns for easy
reference and notation
Activity:
1.Choose 1 topic of your choice.
2.Get the Content Standard and Performance
Standard.
3.List down the competencies. If you need to
indicate the enabling competencies, do so.
4.How many days will you teach the lesson? Please

RUBRIC
An analytic rubric resembles a grid
with the criteria for a student
product listed in the leftmost column
and with levels of performance listed
across the top row often using
numbers and/or descriptive tags.
An analytic rubric breaks down the
characteristics of an assignment into
parts, allowing the scorer to itemize
and define exactly what aspects are
strong, and which ones need
improvement.
A holistic rubric is the most general kind.It
consists of a single scale with all criteria to
be included in the evaluation being
considered together (e.g., clarity,
organization, and mechanics). With a
holistic rubric the rater assigns a single
score (usually on a 1 to 4 or 1 to 6 point
scale) based on an overall judgment of the
student work.
