1.Infinitives
Concept
The negation of the infinitive
Infinitives là hình thức động từ
is formed by adding "not"
nguyên mẫu.
before "to V" or "V".
- There are 2 types of Ex: not learn, not watch,
infinitives: “To infinitives” not to play.....
and “Bare Infinitives”
How to use “To infinitive”
1.The verb followed directly by Example
agree, appear,attempt, ask,

I want to sing.
decide, determine, fail,
Verb + to...(infinitive)
endeavour, happen, hope,
learn,offer, plan, prepare,
He agreed to let me go
promise,refuse, seem,
early
tend,volunteer, expect,
want,…
Used after verbs + object: Verb + O + to….(infinitive)

encourage, forbid, force, She forces herself to learn
hear, instruct, invite, order, English.

How to use “Infinitive without to”
After MAKE, HELP, LET, After verbs of perception: SEE,

HAVE + O + V0 HEAR, WATCH, FEEL,...
- See, hear,...+ bare infinitive:
Ex: I hear them talk about
Ex: Her parents wouldn’t me.
let her go out alone. - See, hear,...+ V_ing:
Ex: I hear them talking
about me.

Concept Ex
Gerund are fomred by coming, building,

adding the ending_ing teaching…
to the verb
The negation of verbs is formed by adding Not
before V_ing

• Words do not change meaning

Begin/ start/ continue/ like/ love + To-inf/ V-ing
Ex: It started to rain/raining.

• Words change meaning
Stop + To inf.
Ex: I stopped to get a cup of coffee.
Stop
Stop + V-ing.
Ex: He stopped smoking.
Forget + To inf.
Forget Ex: I forget to water the flowers.
Forget + V-ing.
Ex: I forget to bringing my pen.
Remember + To inf.
Remember Ex: Please remember to turn off the lights.
Remember + V-ing.
Ex: She remembered locking the door.
Regret + To inf.
Ex: I'm regret to tell you that the flight
Regret has been delayed.
Regret + V-ing.
Ex: She regrets leaving school when
she was 16.
Try + To inf.
Try Ex: I tried to lose weight, but it was too hard.

Ex: She tries making a cake.

Ex: I need to wash my car.

Dạng 1. Use an objective pronoun with a to-infinitive.

When using personal pronouns before to infinitives, we use personal pronouns
such as: me, you, him, her, it, us, them.
Ex: Martha expects him to help her with the projections.

Dạng 2. Use a possessive pronoun with a gerund.

When using possessive pronouns before V-ing, we use possessive
pronouns like: my, your, his, her, its, our, and their.
Ex: I appreciate your telling him about the situation.
