INTRODUCTION
Bangladesh, a densely populated and rapidly
developing nation in South Asia, grapples with a
dynamic energy landscape crucial to its economic
growth and societal well-being. As a country with
limited indigenous energy resources, Bangladesh
faces the challenge of meeting the escalating energy
demand to fuel its burgeoning industries,
urbanization, and improving living standards. The
Study delves into the current energy situation in
Bangladesh, examining the key factors influencing
the energy sector .
 PRESENT ENERGY
SITUATION

 Natural gas is the main source of energy almost half of all

sources as shown in the pie chart. There are total 26 gas
field have been discovered in this country,in which 20 gas
field are in production with 101 wellls.Total proven
recoverable reserve is 20.77 TCF.
 Coal is one of the cheapest primary energy source in the
world as well as in Bangladesh. There are 5 coal fields
been discovered so far which reserve more than 3 billion
tones.
 In case of biomass energy it has shown a lot of potential.
almost one third of total energy consumption depends
upon this source. Especially in rural sector it has plays a
vital role almost 98 percent of biomass energy is being
used for cooking there.
 Petroleum or liquid petroleum has greatly influenced the
economy of bangladesh huge amount of petroleum are
imported as cruide oil.
 Electrical energy is the most common form of energy as it can
convert to other form of energy very easily. In Bangladesh there is
12000 MW electricity demand for peak hours but maximum
generation is about 9000 MW approximately. The main source for
generating electricity is natural gass. Bangladesh greatly depends
on natural gasses for generation of electricity
 Coal is another source of energy for electricity generation. But
Bangladesh mainly depends on imported coal and natural gasses
as well when the temperature rises there creates a shortage of coal
in recent past Bangladesh faces frequent load shedding due to
shortage of fuel.
 As electricity demamnd are rising day by day so there are some
alternating energy sources are taken in consideration for
generating electrity.besides in rural areas there occurs more load
shedding than urban areas.
 From the pir chart it shown in Bangladesh electricty generation
mainly depends on fossil fuels which are reducing and there
sources are also limited.
FUTURE PLAN OF BANGLADESH

As there is shortage of fossil fuels and erengy sources are limited

Bangaldesh government are now switching into nuclear generation of
power. And it is estimated that when the construction will finish, it
can fulfill 15 percent of total electricty demand of Bangladesh around
2160 MW.but it is yet to be constructed.though it has less efffect on
nature but there are some safety issues because very dangerous
radioactive uranium are the main fuel here. In the past there has
been some serious disaster happened at the Chernobyl and Fukusima
nuclear powerplant. but the technology now a days are so advanced
and a 5 layer security system has been constructed but still the
nuclear waste management is a big challenge for Bangladesh.
 Renewable Energy
For a green energy transition, Bangladesh needs ambitious
goals and smart strategies. The IEPMP makes some affirmative
assertions about promoting clean energy in Bangladesh and
brings the target of 40 percent clean energy by 2041 to the
forefront. But actual targets about attaining renewables remain
vague. The plan names hydrogen or ammonia as potential clean
energy sources, but these technologies still remain unproven.

Solar and wind are proven as high-potential renewable energy

sources for Bangladesh. There are varying estimates of
potential solar power generation, but setting up solar panels in
industrial rooftops and fallow and unused land could enable us
to generate more than 20,000 MW of solar power without
harming agricultural production. Moreover, after years,
Bangladesh has finally started to build wind energy plants. A 60
MW wind park at Cox's Bazar is expected to connect to the grid
by the second half of this year
 CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

• Bangladesh has 27.12 TCF natural gas reserves and in 2023-2024 the production is
1600 BCF estimated
• which is inceasing and about 60 percent is used for genration of electricity.Coal is also
imported for fulfilling the demand. power generation system are mainly depends on
fossil fuels in Bangladesh which will be a greater challenge in near future as the
whole world are suffering for energy crisis. The climate is also changing resulting a
global warming.it is also a big challenge for Bangladesh.

• Bangladesh government and the energy commission have taken some initiative to
solve these problems.Renewable energy is in the frontline by the year 2041 it is
estimated that 41 percent of total electricity demand would be fulfilled by
solar, water, and wind energy which would bring a revolution in energy system of
Bangadesh.but more planning and research is also nedeed to fulfill this goal.
Conclusion
Bangladesh's energy future holds great potential, but it also presents significant challenges.
Through strategic planning, investment, and international collaboration, the country can pave
the way for a sustainable and prosperous energy future.
