Gravity

-Gravity
- is a natural phenomenon by which all things with mass or
energy, including planets, stars, galaxies and even light, are
attracted to one another. On Earth, gravity gives weight to
physical objects, and the Moon's gravity causes the tides of the
oceans.

- Gravity is what holds the planets in orbit around the sun and
what keeps the moon in orbit around Earth. The gravitational
pull of the moon pulls the seas towards it, causing the ocean
tides. Gravity creates stars and planets by pulling together the
material from which they are made
Isaac Newton

e discovered Gravity when he saw a falling apple while

nking about the forces of nature. Whatever really happened,
wton realized that some force must be acting on falling
ects like apples because otherwise they would not start
ving from rest.
changed the way we understand the Universe. Revered in his
own lifetime, he discovered the laws of gravity and motion
and invented calculus.

at is the contribution of gravity in our scientific

velopment?

The major contribution developed by Sir Isaac Newton was to

ecognize that this falling motion observed on Earth was the
same behavior of motion that the Moon and other objects
experience, which holds them in place within relation to each
other.
Telescope
device used to form magnified images of distant objects. The
telescope is undoubtedly the most important investigative tool in
astronomy.
It provides a means of collecting and analyzing radiation from celestial
objects, even those in the far reaches of the universe.

first appeared in the Netherlands. In October 1608, the national

government in The Hague discussed a patent application for a device
hat aided "seeing faraway things as though nearby." It consisted of a
onvex and concave lens in a tube. The combination magnified objects
hree or four times.
History of telescope

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)

- was part of a small group of astronomers who
turned telescopes towards the heavens. After
hearing about the "Danish perspective glass"
in 1609, Galileo constructed his own telescope.

The word telescope was coined in 1611 by the

Greek mathematician Giovanni Demisiani for one
of Galileo Galilei's instruments presented at a
banquet at the Accademia dei Lincei. In the Starry
Messenger, Galileo had used the Latin term
perspicillum.
Contribution of telescope in scientific development

Telescopes have opened our eyes to the universe. Early telescopes

showed that Earth was not the center of the universe, as was
previously believed. They also showed mountains and craters on the
moon. Later telescopes have revealed geography and weather on the
planets in our solar system

That is, it made things look three times larger than they did with the
naked eye. Through refining the design of the telescope he developed
an instrument that could magnify eight times, and eventually thirty
times. This increased magnification of heavenly objects had a
significant and immediate impact.
