A tournament is a competition between multiple
teams in a sport or game where a winner is
determined
TYPES OF TOURNAMENT

FIXTURE:-Fixture is a process of arrangement of the teams in
systematic order in various groups for competitive Fights for physical
activity’

BYE – Bye is a preferential status given to a player or team


that allows them to automatically advance to the next
round of a tournament without playing an opponent in an
early round.

NUMBER OF MATCHES (M)= N-1
UPPER HALF (EVEN ) = N/2
FOR ODD NUMBERS U.H.= N+1/2
LOWER HALF = N-1/2
LOWER HALF (EVEN ) = N/2
NUMBER OF BYE = 2^n-N
n = NUMBER OF ROUND
Example – draw a fixture for 8 teams

 N= 8
 Number of matches (M)
= N-1 = 7
 UPPER HALF= N/2 = 4
 LOWER HALF = N/2= 4
 NUMBER OF BYE = 2^n
–N = 8-8=0

 THE TEAMS IS ROTATED IN CLOCK WISE DIRECTION
 IF NUMBER OF TEAM IS IN EVEN NUMBER THE NUMBER OR ROUND WILL BE =N-1
 AND IF NUMBER OF TEAM IS IN ODD THAN = N=R

 EXAMPLE – DRAW A FIXTURE OF 6 TEAMS ON BASIC ACCORDING TO THE CYCLIC

STAIRCASE METHOD
 In the staircase method fixtures are made just like a ladder or a
staircase this method is the easiest because no bye given to any
team and there is no problem of odd or even numbers of teams
TABULAR METHOD
 Tabular method is called graph method if the numbers of team is in even
number such as 2,4,6,8,10 …than hand N+1 squares are made vertically and
horizontally behan and represents the number of team participating in the
tournament if the number of team is in odd numbers such as 3,5,7,9…then
N+2 squares are made vertically and horizontally

Method of Putting the Numbers in Squares. First of all, write down the names
of the teams such as A, B, C, D, etc. vertically as well as horizontally on left
side squares and upper side squares. If the number of teams is in odd
number, write down ‘Bye’ in the last columns of both sides.

 Activities that take place outside the walls of a school or institution,
such as extramural sports or extramural studies. Extramural activities
can include friendly matches, restricted competitions
