Eiffel tower
• Eiffel tower is a landmark in Paris. It was built
between 1887 and 1889 for the Exposition
Universelle (World Fair). The Tower was the
Exposition's main attraction. It is named after
the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company
designed and built the tower. The tower is 330
metres tall,about the same height as an 81-
storey building, and the tallest structure in
Paris. For 130 years, the Eiffel Tower has been a
powerful and distinctive symbol of the city of
Paris, and by extension, of France. At first,
when it was built for the 1889 World's Fair, it
impressed the entire world by its stature and
daring design, and symbolized French know-
how and industrial ingenuity of the City of
lights.
