Why were three round table conferences held between 1930 and 1932?

 Ans: the Simon commission had announced that a set of round table conferences will be held in 1930
to agree on the proposals of future Indian constitution .
 The report of commission was not accepted by Indians
 The Nehru report and fourteen points were not accepted there fore more than one meeting was
necessary .
 The rtc s were also held to discuss the Simon commissions recommendations on future constitution of
India .
 Many organizations as Muslim league and Sikh organization attended first rtc .
 The congress did not attended first one while attended the second one because it was realized without
congress attendance little progress on the negotiations on constitution could be achieved .
 Gandhi Irwin pact was concluded and Gandhi attended second rtc but due to Gandhi's firms stand on
minority issue the rtc ended and third had to be conducted
 Gandhi resumed his quit Indian movement ,
 Third conference was held in a hope that some agreement was reached but it was just a formality
Why was Dr Allama mhd Iqbal an important influence on
the struggle for a separate homeland for Pakistan ? (7)

 Ans :
 Allama Iqbal was the greatest poet and philosopher of Pakistan. He took inspiration for holy Quran .he provided
intellectual base for a separate homeland , he wrote several books like bang e dara,bal I jibrael, zabur I ajam ,
armaghan –I- hijaz to wake up the Muslims from the deep sleep of slavery .
 He worked to improve Muslim position in the society
 In 1922 he was knighted by British in recognition for high standard of poetry.(1 st paraa)
 In 1926 he was elected to Punjab assembly and soon made an impact with his skill of handling new laws .
 In 1927 he was appointed as the general secretary of Muslim league sir shaffi group .
 His poetry was full of hope for the Muslims (2 nd paragraph)
 he said Hindus and Muslims are two separate nations and should have separate states
 He has been described as architect of Pakistan
 First Muslim politician to demand separate homeland
 He made two nation theory as base for Pakistan
 He recognized Jinnah's talent as natural leader of Muslims (3 rd paragraph)
What was the third June plan?(4)

 Lord Mountbatten was sent to England to work out plan for British to
leave India. The plan was announced on 3rd June 1947,government of
India to be constitution of both countries, Muslim majority provinces
were to vote on whether to stay with India or to stay with
Pakistan ,Muslims accepted the plan which was given seven weeks
before partition , the plan also included that both countries will have
their own governor generals.

Jinnah was keen to have Hindu Muslim unity and prepared to reject
separate electorate for this .as a result he made number of proposals to
congress at a meeting in Delhi in 1927 .he wanted more Muslim
majority provinces to balance to balance the number of Hindu majority
provinces in central assembly .he proposed that Sindh should be
separated from Bombay presidency and made into full province .he
wanted protection of Muslim minorities in Punjab and Bengal . One third
seats in central legislature were to be set aside for Muslims , he wanted
reserved seats rather then separate electorates ,congress favorably
received these proposals but withdrew their support later in the year .

Ans : Jinnah's aim in Delhi proposals were to
have Hindu Muslim unity to explore the
possibility of 1/3 rd reserved seats in central
legislature rather than separate
electorates ,also Sindh to be separated from
Bombay presidency and made a full province .

1. the Jinnah urged the Muslim league party members to grasp the support from root level .Jinnah urged Muslims that they won the elections from the areas where it already had offices before 1937.he launched a massive campaign to increase vote bank of Muslim league .
2.Jinnah urged muslims to seek political guidance from islam .
3.In 1938 women subcommittee was setup under Fatima Jinnah in this way he was able to include muslim women in mission of ml.

 though inc and muslim league did not approve 1935 act but still decided to contest the
elections .Nehru gradually unfolded inc aims by saying the congress can carry its message to millions
of the voters and scores of million disenfranchised to aquaint them with our policy and programme.
 The results of elections were shocking for the muslims and muslim league INC GOT MASSIVE VICTORY
BY WINNING 711 seats
 The congress alienated ml and asked victorious ml members to join inc .it refusedto cooperate with
ml .although its calim to slolely represent india was further frustrating for ml
 these were the first formal elections for ml and these elections unified ml
 It learned a lot about elections
 Muslims felt betrayed bythe british who they though was giving inc opportunity to form government
without giving muslim rights
 Poor performance of ml proved to be blessing in disguise for ml as it strengthened the two nation
theory further
Why was cripps mission of 1942
unsuccessful?

 Did not meet indian leaders directly ,did not involved any indian .
 Gandhi considered it post dated check in failing bank
 Gandhis demand of giving self rule after war was rejected
