Using Supervision in CBT Training

Introduction

Psychotherapy knowledge can be categorized into two broad domains:


1. Knowledge of concepts.
2. Knowledge of how to apply these concepts.

This manual provides a basic understanding of CBT concepts and


practical tips for their application. However, CBT application varies
based on the therapist, patient, and treatment setting. Supervision
and consultation are essential for advancing CBT practice skills
through feedback and interaction with a CBT trainer
What is Supervision, and Why Is It Important to
CBT?
Goals and Focus of Supervision for the Supervisee
Supervision aims to provide therapist performance feedback, guidance in
acquiring alternative viewpoints, contributes to the therapist's identity
formation, and offers a secure base to explore applications and therapeutic
principles.

Goals and Focus of Supervision for the Patient


Supervision ensures that patients receive acceptable care by
monitoring therapist actions to prevent harm, assure therapists
possess sufficient skills, and provide remediation for those lacking
skills.

Supervision is NOT Therapy
