Introduction

• The “cloud” is a term that simply means “the internet.”

Computing involves the infrastructures and systems that allow
a computer to run and build, deploy, or interact with information.

• Cloud computing is a technology that enables users to access

and use computing resources over the internet, without the need
to own and manage the physical infrastructure themselves.

5/26/2023 1
Cloud Computing Service Types
Software-as-a-Service
• SaaS is the most common cloud service type. The SaaS model makes
software accessible through an app or web browser.
• Requiring no hardware installation or management, SaaS solutions
are a big hit in the business world.
• Notable examples include Salesforce, Dropbox and Google Docs.
Platform-as-a-Service
• PaaS is a cloud environment supporting web application development
and deployment.
• PaaS supports the full lifecycle of applications, helping users build,
test, deploy, manage and update all in one place.

Cloud Computing Service Types
Infrastructure-as-a-Service

• IaaS provides users with basic computer infrastructure capabilities

like data storage, servers and hardware — all in the cloud.

• IaaS gives businesses access to large platforms and applications

without the need for large onsite physical infrastructures.

• Notable examples of IaaS include Digital Ocean, Amazon EC2 and

Google Compute Engine.
5/26/2023 3
Definition of Cloud Computing

• Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-

demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing
resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal
management effort or service provider interaction .

• Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system

resources, especially data storage (cloud storage) and computing
power, without direct active management by the user.

5/26/2023 4
Definition of Cloud Computing

• Cloud computing delivered by a third party provider.

• It is a storage device to stored and maintain the data and application.

• Cloud computing is an internet based new age computer technology.

• It gives the low cost environment for the end user.

• It provides a method to access several servers world wide.

5/26/2023 5
History of Cloud Computing
• The History of Cloud Computing Were started and invented in the
early 1960s by J.C.R Licklider (Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider), an
American Psychologist and Computer Scientist

• This terminology was associated with IBM and DEC (Digital

Equipment Corporation).

• By mid-2000s probably 2006 Amazon created AWS (Amazon web

services) and also noted its Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2).

• By 2008, Google too introduced its beta version of the search engine. 6
5/26/2023
Cont..
• In 2010, companies like AWS, Microsoft, and OpenStack had developed
private clouds that were fairly functional.
• The concept of hybrid clouds was introduced in 2011.
• Oracle introduced the Oracle Cloud in 2012, offering the three basics for
business, IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-
Service), and SAAS (Software-as-a-Service).
• By 2014, cloud computing had developed its basic features, and security
had become a major concern.
• In 2016 the cloud began to shift from developer-friendly to developer-
driven.
• Currently Application developers began taking full advantage of the
cloud for the tools it had available.
5/26/2023 7
How Does it works

• Cloud computing works by having companies host or maintain

massive data centers that provide the security, storage capacity and
computing power to support cloud infrastructure.

• Clients pay for the rights to use their clouds along with an ecosystem
to communicate between devices and programs.

• Cloud management platforms provide an interface for users and

organizations to manage their cloud resources.

5/26/2023 8
How Does it works

• They can also be used to manage multiple cloud providers, allowing

users to switch between providers without having to recreate their
resources.

There are three types of cloud computing deployment models:

1) Private cloud

• Private clouds are built, managed, and owned by a single organization

and privately hosted in their own data centers, commonly known as “on-
premises” or “on-prem.”
9

Cont.…
• Because the private cloud is only accessible to a single business, this
model offers a high degree of control.

• They provide greater control, security, and management of data while

still enabling internal users to benefit from a shared pool of compute,
storage, and network resources.

2) Public cloud

• Public cloud uses the internet to store and manage access to data and
applications. It’s completely virtualized, providing an environment
5/26/2023where shared resources are leveraged as needed. 10
Cont.…

• Public clouds are run by third-party cloud service providers.

• They offer compute, storage, and network resources over the internet,
enabling companies to access shared on-demand resources based on their
unique requirements and business goals.

3) Hybrid cloud

• Hybrid clouds combine public and private cloud models, allowing

companies to leverage public cloud services and maintain the security
and compliance capabilities commonly found in private cloud
5/26/2023 architectures. 11
Cont...
• The hybrid cloud model allows companies to store confidential data
internally and access it via applications running in the public cloud.

• For example, an organization could store sensitive user data in a

private cloud and perform resource-intensive computation in the
public cloud.

Application of Cloud Computing

• Let’s start elaborating on the top 7 applications of cloud computing.

Application of Cloud Computing
 Online Data Storage  Cloud Computing in

 Backup and Recovery Education

 Big Data Analysis

 Testing and Development

 Antivirus Applications

 E-commerce Application

Advantage and Disadvantage of Cloud Computing

) Back-up and restore data

Once the data is stored in the cloud, it is easier to

get back-up and restore.

Improved collaboration

Excellent accessibility

Cloud allows us to quickly and easily access store

information anywhere, anytime in the whole

world, using an internet connection. 14

 Scalability and Reliability
 Low maintenance cost
 Flexibility: In the cloud, you can
 Mobility: Cloud computing access your resources from any

cloud data via mobile.  Speed: provide faster deployment

and resource access, as you do not
 Unlimited storage capacity

 Data security : Cloud offers many procured and configured.
advanced features related to security and ensures
5/26/2023  Innovation and Security 15
Disadvantage of Cloud Computing
Internet Connectivity

Vendor lock-in : the biggest disadvantage of cloud computing that

can cause difficulty moving from one cloud to another.
Limited Control :cloud infrastructure is completely owned, managed,
and monitored by the service provider, so the cloud users have less
control over the function and execution of services within a cloud
infrastructure.

5/26/2023 16
Cont.…
) Security : While sending the data on the cloud, there may be a
chance that your organization's information is hacked by Hackers.
Limited flexibility and control: Cloud computing is run in a way
that denies business owners the ability to manage and monitor the
entire cloud infrastructure.

5/26/2023 17
Characteristics of Cloud Computing

Resource pooling

• The cloud providing company uses computing resources and then provides
cloud services to different customers.
Maintenance is easy

• The cloud servers are easy to setup and install and the maintenance of the
servers are easy to done.

Access to large network

• The user is provided the functionality of accessing the large cloud network and
5/26/2023 can use the resources and services provided by the system. 18
Cont..

Availability

• The user can access the data anytime from the network.
Automatic system

• The cloud services are capable of analyzing the user needs and
providing the services according to that.
• The user can monitor the service, control the usage.
Pay as per use

• The cloud network provides the functionality that the user has to pay

5/26/2023 only for that service that they use. 19

Conclusion
• In conclusion, cloud computing is recently new technological development that has the
potential to have a great impact on the world.

• It has many benefits that it provides to it users and businesses.

• The cloud computing technology has been around since industry started using mainframe
computers for distributed computing.

• The distributed computing technology has been labelled as cluster computing, virtual
computing, and other names.

• Yesterday, a company might have been an "application service provider" or a seller of

"Software-as-a-Service."

• Today,
5/26/2023 they're in the business of "cloud computing." 20
