which definitions is used as a measurement or
process?
Questions:

● 1. What did you notice to the given definitions?

● 2. Which definition do you think explains or describes
the
word, A or B?
● 3. Which definition do you think shows a process or
measurement, A or B?

Read the excerpt from A Martian Sends a

they cause the eyes to melt
or the body to shriek without pain.

Mist is when the sky is tired of flight

and rests its soft machine on ground:

Rain is when the earth is television.

It has the property of making colours darker.
QUESTIONS:

1. What is caxton, mist, and rain?

2. How did the poet define these words?
3. How will you define these words?

1.
describing any technical terms or terminologies?
2. Which definition you think focuses on the application of the
word or is used in defining the terms of a process?
3. What do you think is technical definition?, operational
definition?
4. Why do we have to know these?
I. What’’’’s More!!!!!...
Read the text below and answer the questions.

I often believed that academic writing, like for example

writing a research paper or essays; and writing journals or
proposals and review papers which are scientific writing,
are factual and convey facts and information. However, it is
now a recognized that an important feature of academic
writing is the concept of cautious language, often called
“hedging”. !!
Hedging is a significant communicative resource for
academics since it is both confirms the individual’s
professional persona and represents a critical element in the
rhetorical means.
Hedges allow writers to anticipate possible opposition to
claims by expressing statements with precision, caution, and
diplomatic deference to the views of colleagues.
Questions:
1. What is meant by the following:
academic writing scientific writing hedging
cautious

4. What kind of definition you used? Technical or operational

Questions:

● 1. What did you notice to the given definitions?

● 2. Which definition do you think explains or describes
the
word, A or B?
● 3. Which definition do you think shows a process or
measurement, A or B?
What Is It!
Read the following texts clearly. Then, answer the

4. In what way can you take advantage of these
types of

Operational definition is the specific meaning of a
word or phrase given to it by the group of people
who use the word in their specific context.

On the other hand, operational definition is more on

the application of the word. In other words, it is used
in defining the terms of a process.

What Does it Mean to be a Global Citizen?

By Ronald C. Israel

At The Global Citizens’ Initiative we say that a “global

citizen is someone who identifies with being part of an
emerging world community and whose actions contribute to
building this community’s values and practices.”

To test the validity of this definition we examine its basic

assumptions: (a) that there is such a thing as an emerging
world community with which people can identify; and (b)
that such a community has a nascent set of values and
practices.
GROUP 2

Why is it important to learn the
technical and operational
definitions?
Technical and operational definitions are crucial in research
because they provide a clear and consistent understanding of
the terms used in the study.

Technical definitions are used to describe the specific methods,

equipment, and procedures used in the research, while
operational definitions are used to define the specific ways in
which key concepts, variables, and measures will be
operationalized, or put into practice, in the study. This helps to
ensure that the research is conducted in a reliable and valid
manner, and that the results can be replicated by other
