LEARNING MATERIALS
Learning Outcomes:
Operate CAD software and computer hardware
Prepare plans using CAD
INTRODUCTION:
•BYBLOCK, A special object property used to specify that the object inherits the
color or linetype of any block containing it.
•BYLAYER, A special object property used to specify that the object inherits the
color or linetype associated with its layer. See also BYBLOCK.
•DWG, The standard file format for saving AutoCAD-based vector graphics. See
also DWF and DXF.
•Lineweight, A width value that can be assigned to all graphical objects except
TrueType ® fonts and raster images.
DEFINITION OF TERMS IN RELATION WITH
PREPARING PLANS USING AUTOCAD:
•Pan, To shift the view of a drawing without changing magnification. (PAN) See
also zoom.
•Viewport, A bounded area that displays some portion of the model space of a drawing.
The TILEMODE system variable determines the type of viewport created.
DEFINITION OF TERMS IN RELATION WITH
PREPARING PLANS USING AUTOCAD:
transparency
polyline
model
mirror
mesh
merge
DEFINITION OF TERMS IN RELATION WITH
PREPARING PLANS USING AUTOCAD:
Origin, The point where coordinate axes intersect. For example, the origin of a Cartesian coordinate system is where
the X, Y, and Z axes meet at 0,0,0.
Transparency, A value that defines how much light passes through an object.
Polyline, An object composed of one or more connected line segments or circular arcs treated as a single object. Also
called pline.
Model, A 2D or 3D representation of a mechanical part, house or building, piping, electrical circuitry, schematic or
diagram, or some other entity.
Mirror, To create a new version of an existing object by reflecting it symmetrically with respect to a specified line or
plane. (MIRROR)
Mesh, A tessellated, or subdivided object type that is defined by faces, edges, and vertices. Mesh can be smoothed to
achieve a more rounded appearance and creased to introduce ridges.
Merge, In tables, an adjacent cell selection that has been combined into a single cell.
LAUNCHING AUTOCAD
NCOPY – Nested Copy – Copy individual objects from an external reference or block
reference.
CHSPACE – Change Space – Move an object through a viewport from paper space to
model space or vice versa.
FIELD – Creates text that automatically grabs information from your drawing.
AutoCAD Issues. – Try These Commands:
Manage Screen
Rectangle- You can draw rectangles by specifying two opposite corners of the
rectangle, specifying the area and the size of one of the sides, or specifying the
rectangle’s dimensions.
Trim- When creating a design, you may need to remove the unwanted and extending
edge. In such cases, you can use the Trim tool.
IDENTIFYING TYPES OF TOOLS IN
PREPARING PLANS USING AUTOCAD
Extend-The Extend tool may be considered as the opposite of the Trim tool. You can
extend lines, polylines, rays, and arcs to meet the other objects using the Extend tool.
Circle- A circle is drawn by using the CIRCLE command.
Copy- This tool is used to make the copies of the selected objects and place them at the
specified location.
Mirror- This tool is used to create a mirror copy of the selected objects. The objects can
be mirrored at any angle.
Rotate- On invoking this tool, you will be prompted to select the objects and the base
point about which the selected objects will be rotated.
IDENTIFYING TYPES OF TOOLS IN
PREPARING PLANS USING AUTOCAD
Erase- Sometimes, you need to erase the unwanted objects from the objects drawn. To
erase an object, choose Erase tool from the Modify panel. Copy- This tool is used to
make the copies of the selected objects and place them at the specified location.
Offset- You can use the Offset tool to draw parallel lines, polylines, concentric circles,
arcs, curves, etc.,
Move- The Move Tool is used to move one or more objects from their current location to
a new location without changing their size or orientation.
Array- You may need to create an object multiple times in a rectangular or circular
arrangement in some cases.
IDENTIFYING TYPES OF TOOLS IN
PREPARING PLANS USING AUTOCAD
Scale- Sometimes you need to change the size of objects in a drawing.
For this purpose, the Scale tool comes in handy.
Fillet- The edges in a model are generally filleted to reduce the area of
stress concentration.
Explode- This tool is useful when you have inserted an entire drawing,
and you need to alter a small detail.
