Introduction
 Waste: Waste is are unwanted or unusable materials.
 Type of waste used in Civil Engineering Point of view
• Grass Waste • Rise Husk
• Plastic Waste • Fly ash
• Coir Waste • Banana waste
 Using Grass as fiber in concrete beam helps in reduction of waste as
well as improve tensile strength of concrete.
 Grass Fiber
• Grass fibers are natural fibers obtained from different grass species.
• Used as a fiber material to improve concrete properties.

 Objective of Using Grass Fiber:

• Enhance mechanical properties (strength, toughness).
• Improve sustainability of concrete by reducing reliance on synthetic fibers.
• Enhance public awareness of eco-friendly construction materials
 Flexural strength
• The flexural strength of concrete is one measure of the tensile strength of
unreinforced concrete
Scope
 Optimize GCC mixture design
 Investigate grass fiber properties
 Develop scalable production methods
 Hybrid GCC materials development
 Expanded construction applications
 Affordable housing
Advantages
Environmentally Friendly
• Helps recycle waste from farming.
Cost-Effective
• Grass fibers are cheap and easy to get.
Stronger Concrete:
• Makes concrete better at resisting bending and pressure.
Less Cracking
• Reduce crack formation especially for thinner concrete
Eco-Friendly:
• Grass fibers break down naturally and don’t harm the environment.
Disadvantages
 Quality Variability: Grass fibers vary in strength, length, and texture,
affecting performance.
 Degradation: Fibers break down over time due to moisture, and environment.
 Durability: Moisture absorption weakens concrete, especially in humid/wet
conditions
 Inconsistent Mixing: Fibers don't mix evenly, creating weak spots.
 Grass Fiber Concrete Issues:
1.Variable quality
2. Breaks down over time
3. Weakens with moisture
4. Difficult to mix evenly

For Standard Conventional Beam

fb = = = 1.919 N/mm²
Conclusions
•Higher Flexural Strength: Grass fiber beams have a flexural strength of 2.6799 N/mm²,
higher than the 1.92 N/mm² of standard concrete beams.
•Improved Durability: The addition of grass fibers enhances bending resistance and reduces
cracking, improving the concrete's overall durability.
•Sustainable Solution: Grass fibers are eco-friendly, renewable, and biodegradable, making
them a sustainable alternative to synthetic reinforcements.
•Cost-Effective: Grass fibers are relatively inexpensive and locally available.
•Suitable for Structural Applications: Grass fiber-reinforced concrete is ideal for
applications requiring high flexural strength, such as precast beams, pavements, and slabs.
