WHAT IS OLYMPICS?

 The Olympic Games is an important


international event featuring summer and
winter sports. Summer Olympic
Games and Winter Olympic Games are
held every four years.
 Over time the Olympics have become
bigger. In old times, women were not
allowed, but now there are women's
events. The Paralympics Games were
created for athletes with physical
disabilities. As well, the Olympics became
bigger with the addition of the Youth
Olympic Games for teenage athletes.
 As the decision-making body,
the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
is responsible for choosing the host city for
each Olympic Games. The IOC is also

 Formed on 23 June 1894 in Paris, by Pierre Baron de Coubertin.
 Headquarters in Switzerland.
 IOC organizes summer and winter Olympic games every 4 years.
 Members of IOC : Nominated persons from the member countries.
 President is elected by member for a term of 8 Years.
 Presently Thomas Bach, German has become the ninth president
of the IOC and succeeds Jacques Rogge from 10 Sep 2013.
 It encourages “Sport for all.”
 Decides the date & place of the next Olympics.
 Protects the independence of Olympic Movement.
 Fight against Doping in sports.
 Promoted women in sports at all levels.
 Ensures the celebration of Olympic Games.
 Formulates & updates the rules & regulations of the games &
sports.
 Promotes ethics in sport & education of youth through sport.
 Opposes Political or Commercial Abuse of Sport & Athletes.
PARIS -
 Paris has hosted several Olympiads: 1900 and
1924 and will host in 2024. Paris will be the
second city, in the Modern Games, to have
hosted three Olympiads when Paris hosts the
2024 Summer Olympics, the other being London
(1908, 1948, 2012). Los Angeles will be the third
in 2028 (1932, 1984, 2028).
 Paris is the capital and largest city of France.
With an official estimated population of
2,102,650 residents as of 1 January 2023 in an
area of more than 105 km2 (41 sq mi),Paris is
the fourth-largest city in the European Union and
the 30th most densely populated city in the
world in 2022. Since the 17th century, Paris has
been one of the world's major centres of finance,
diplomacy, commerce, culture, fashion,
and gastronomy. For its leading role in
the arts and sciences, as well as its early and
extensive system of street lighting, in the 19th
century, it became known as the City of Light.
VENUE & STADIUMS IN
PARIS -
 Paris is gearing up for the Olympic Games
Paris 2024. The French capital is set to
host the world’s biggest sports festival.
This edition is bigger than ever, with as
many as 32 sports disciplines. All these
sports, of course, need a stadium or
venue. In the city itself, near Paris and
further across the country, there are some
35 stadiums or venues where a sport will
be held. Some are still under reservation.

 Theme of Olympic 2024 : Let’s move and celebrate.
 Paris 2024 will feature the debut of breakdancing as an Olympic
event, and it will be the final Olympic Games held during the IOC
presidency of Thomas Bach. The 2024 Games are expected to cost
€8.3 billion.
 Tagline of Olympic 2024 : Games wide open!
 Meaning of Olympic 2024 Logo - The logo for Paris 2024 combines
three separate symbols – the gold medal, the flame and Marianne,
the personification of the French Republic. Each of these symbols
reflects a part of our identity and values.
 Games Added : A new, youthful sport is coming to the Paris 2024
Olympics — while some other sports are falling by the wayside this
year. Breaking, aka breakdancing, will make its Olympic debut in Paris
this summer, joined by three other recently added Olympic sports:
surfing, skateboarding, and sport climbing.
 Olympic Torch Produced – 2,000 Torches.
