The Body Shop Strategic Plan Analysis

Introduction
The body shop has been known for being pioneers in no animal testing and producing beauty products from natural ingredients. The Body Shop started life as a small retail outlet in Brighton selling just 25 products. Today the range consists of over 300 products and there are more than 2500 stores worldwide. The Body Shop helped in promoting ethical and social responsibility values in the industry as well as globally.

History

Dame Anita Roddick started The Body Shop small retail outlet in Brighton selling just 25 products.

The Body Shop goes public First major campaign for The Body Shop was "Save the Whale" with Greenpeace.

The Body Shop establishes first Community Fair Trade in India

Since then The Body Shop has been providing products that enhance the natural beauty at the same time improving the welfare of the Planet and its inhabitants

Anita Roddick
Anita Roddick was a British environmental and human rights campaigner. Anitas early travels experience inspired her ideas and formulated the ethical business practices.
She had spent time in farming and fishing communities with pre-industrial peoples, and was exposed to body rituals of women from all over the world. Also the saving attitude of her mother exercised during the world war years made her question retail conventions.

The Body Shop arrived just as Europe was going 'green' the emphasis and awareness of environmental issues was growing. These historical events and situations influenced Anitas values. The ideas and values of the successful and wilful entrepreneur Anita Roddick has today shaped up the Body Shops organization mission and vision statement.

Vision
I just want The Body Shop to be the best, most breathlessly exciting company and one that changes the way business is carried out. That is my vision. Anita Roddick. Human Rights Activist. Founder of The Body Shop.
The Body Shop has proven over the years how it has become the pioneers in ethical business practices and encouraging environmental friendly business activities. The Body Shop has followed its vision and brought changes in the way businesses are done that today many companies in the cosmetic industry have adapted to no animal testing.

To dedicate our business to the pursuit of social and environmental change.

The Body Shop mission statement states that it will operate the business with a strong commitment to the wellbeing of the fellow humans and the preservation of the planet. These are the two core principles of the business which were inspired by the entrepreneur behind this mega cosmetic brand.

The Body Shop Values are based upon the mission. 1. Activate Self-Esteem According to The Body Shop the true beauty comes from confidence, vitality and inner wellbeing. The Body Shop strives to use imagery which doesnt play on women's insecurities such as showing artificially beautiful models, but instead provide products that enhance the natural beauty and express each unique personality. 2. Against Animal Testing The Body Shop has always believed passionately that animals should not be used for cosmetic testing. The Body Shop has never tested products on animals. The company also makes sure that other stakeholders (such as suppliers) dont also practice in testing their ingredients on animals for cosmetic purposes.

3. Support Community Trade The Community Fair Trade allows the suppliers to build better futures for themselves and their communities. Today the programme benefits over 25,000 people in 22 countries worldwide, who supply to Body Shop with 18 of the naturally derived ingredients and over 50 different gifts and accessories. 4. Defend human right Since 1994 the Body Shop has helped to raise funds and global awareness of domestic violence.

The Body Shop is constantly seeking new ways to improve their business practices and reduce the carbon footprint. The Body Shop has set targets to reduce energy, waste and water use.

Conclusion
The Body Shop mission and vision has been consistent throughout the years it has been in operation. The companys mission and vision has been inspired by the ideologies and values of the entrepreneur behind the cosmetic brand, Anita Roddick. This shows how much influence an entrepreneur values has upon the mission of the business. Over the years, there has been additions to the values of the business such as the policy of no animal testing and defend human rights. Even in Saudi Arabia the company has been marketing effectively to increase awareness and influence people in the country with ethical practices. As the business grew in Saudi Arabia the Body Shop has intensified its marketing in promoting its values this is visible by visiting the companys social website pages for Saudi Arabia. The Body Shop is a prime example of strong mission and a vision which led the company not only to be successful and becoming a popular brand globally but at the same time being able to achieve its goals and objectives and able to bring the change in business as stated by the entrepreneur Anita Roddick in her vision.
