About UNU
It is an academic arm of the UN established in 1973 dedicated to the generation and transfer of knowledge, & the strengthening of individual & institutional capacities It serves purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations: It researches into the global problems of - Human survival - Development - Welfare. It functions as a think tank for the UN and provides knowledge-based policy advice as well as acting as a bridge between UN and the international academic and policy-making communities. It also implements research and educational programs in the area of sustainable development with the aim of assisting developing countries.

CONTACT POINTS WITH ESPAC INITIATIVE It endeavors to provide global

leadership on aspects of peace, development and sustainability including governance - with a special emphasis on collaboration between developed and developing countries. The institution is known for an emphasis on providing high-quality services and outputs, intellectual vitality and a spirit of cooperation, equity, a focus on issues that impact sustainability. The academic work of the UNU is carried out by a global system of research. Formulation of principles, policies, strategies and programmes for action with intellectual independence.

United Nations University Centre He earned a doctorate in theoretical physics in 1970 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. After a year with the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, and two years as a research fellow at Harvard University. Professor Hans van Ginkel Ex-rector, The United Nations University; RCE Adviser Former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Co-chair of the CEC working group on Education for Development. He was the Rector of the UNU, Tokyo, from 1997 to 2007, as well as the UN Under-Secretary-General. Prof. Dr. van Ginkel has been instrumental in developing and promoting the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development. He worked at the Utrecht University, was appointed a full professor in Human Geography and Planning, and became the Rector Magnificus. Professor Charles Hopkins UNESCO and UNU Chairs in Education for Sustainable Development; Charles is the UNESCO Chair for Reorienting Teacher Education for Sustainability at York University and a UNU Chair on Education for Sustainable Development. He is also advisor to the Dean of the faculty of Environmental Studies at York University, executive Director of the John Dearness Environmental Society. Tony Addison (UK) Chief Economist and Deputy Director Tony Addison is Chief Economist and Deputy Director of the UNU World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) in Helsinki, Finland. He was previously Professor of Development Studies, University of Manchester; Executive Director of the Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI), University of Manchester (from 2006-2009); Associate Director of the Chronic Poverty Research Centre (CPRC); and Deputy Director of UNUWIDER.
