With the iPhone 16e set to be released on Friday, customers are already noting its affordability compared to other recent iPhone rollouts.
Priced at just $599, the model is the cheapest of all the new iPhone models still being rolled out at Apple retailers. The ordinary iPhone 16, for example, is priced at $799, and the iPhone 15 costs $699.
Pro and Plus models are more expensive, as they boast additional features, like better cameras, battery lives and processors. The iPhone 16e is designed to be smaller and more affordable while also containing the processing power of the ordinary iPhone 16 models.
"iPhone 16e has an incredible design — inside and out — and is available in an elegant black or white finish," the Apple Store states. "Made from durable aerospace‑grade aluminum, the enclosure on iPhone 16e is built to go the distance and survive life’s oops, whoops, and oh nooos."
The brand's slogan for the new model is "Latest iPhone. Greatest price." But, what all does the iPhone 16e feature? And what makes it better than some of the older models or even the newer ones that have been rolled out in recent months?
In short, the sell of the iPhone 16e is its price, which awards customers most — but not all — the same features as the regular iPhone 16 but for hundreds less.
Key differences between the iPhone 16e and other 16 models
When Apple announced the rollout of the iPhone 16 series, its key feature became Apple Intelligence, a series of AI features that allow customers to get AI help for writing and even creating images based on simple descriptions.
"Built into your iPhone, iPad, and Mac to help you write, express yourself and get things done effortlessly," Apple described on its website. The iPhone 16e features Apple Intelligence, too.
It also features the same 6.1-inch retina display as the regular iPhone 16 as well as the capability for high-resolution photos and portrait mode images — though the 16e doesn't allow for Focus on portraits.

It also doesn't feature Macro photography or spatial photos and videos like the other models, and its singular camera can only zoom to 2x. The regular 16, by comparison, can take the wildly popular .5x zoom images, which give pictures a fish-eye effect. The Pro models feature a third 5x-zoom camera.
Visual intelligence is also available on the 16e — but Dynamic Island, which is a feature at the top of the screen that shows notifications and apps in use, isn't available on the 16e.
It also has a better battery life than the 16, offering 26 hours straight of video playback compared to 22 on the ordinary 16. But, there's a catch — wireless charging is available on the 16e, but it's not compatible with MagSafe chargers.

"iPhone 16e has supersized battery life — up to 6 hours longer in your day than iPhone 11, and up to 12 hours longer in your day than iPhone SE. It’s the best battery life in an iPhone this size. The remarkable power efficiency of Apple silicon — including the first Apple-designed modem, C1 — and iOS means iPhone 16e gets up to 26 hours of video playback. That’s more time to text, browse, and binge movies and shows," Apple wrote.
The overall screen brightness of the 16e is also lower than other models, which could be detrimental to those who prefer a brighter screen.
Comparing the price of the 16e with other iPhone models
The price of the 16e starts at $599 for models featuring 128GB of storage space. It increases to $699 for 256GB and to $899 for 512GB, which is the most amount of storage the phone can have.
Those storage options on par with the regular 16, but the prices are drastically different — $799, $899 and $1,099 are the prices for the same aforementioned number of gigabytes on the ordinary 16 models.
Pro models of the 16 are $200 more per storage level than the regular 16, and they also feature a 1TB option for $1,499. The regular iPhone 15 models, on the other hand, are all $100 less for each storage option than the ordinary iPhone 16 models, starting at $699 for 128GB.
iPhone 15 Plus models are the same price as regular iPhone 16 models. Then, there are the older models, which are available for resale on Amazon and other places. All of those are cheaper than the iPhone 16e, with iPhone 14 models selling for around $350. Plus models were selling for just over $400.
iPhone 13 models were selling for just over $300, and the old but affordable iPhone SE was selling for just under $200. But, for all the new models of iPhone, the 16e is the cheapest by at least $100.
