Third-Party Resources
Numerous organizations have created resources aimed at helping
scientists write data management plans for different funding agencies.
The following is a partial list of online resources we feel may
be useful to members of the Unidata community.
-
DMPTool
The Data Management Plan (DMP) Tool was developed by a group of institutions and is now
managed by the California Digital Library, which is part of the University of California.
The DMPTool is designed to help researchers create data management plans, and provides
information about the requirements of numerous funding agencies, along with sample plans.
-
ESIP Data Management Short Course
The Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP)
is an open, networked community that brings together science, data, and information technology practitioners.
The Data Management Short Course for Scientists consists of a series of short video lectures
that help scientists understand data management issues and create data management plans.
-
Data Managment and Sharing Guide
The University of California at Berkeley Science Libraries have created a set of
online resources focused on data management and sharing. This guide duplicates some
of the resources from the DMPTool and ESIP sites, but also contains additional material
that may be of interest.
-
DataONE
Data Observation Network for Earth (DataONE) is funded by
the National Science Foundation with the goal of creating a
“distributed framework and sustainable
cyberinfrastructure that meets the needs of science and
society for open, persistent, robust, and secure access to
well-described and easily discovered Earth observational
data.”
-
Data Carpentry
Data Carpentry is a sister organization of Software Carpentry.
They develop curricula and run workshops designed to teach basic concepts, skills and tools for
working more effectively with data, targeting data analysis and data management techniques for
specific scientific domains.
-
Figshare
Figshare is an online service with some features similar to RAMADDA.
It allows users to upload any file format
to be made visualisable in the browser so that figures,
datasets, media, papers, posters, presentations, and
filesets can be disseminated widely. Figsare is a subscription service with various
cost levels (there is a no-cost level as well).
