Unidata is partnering with the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) on a project to Improve Model-to-Observational Data Inter-comparisons in the NOAA's National Climate Model Portal (NCMP MIP). The goal of NCMP MIP is to develop advanced user access capabilities at the NOAA Climate Model Portal (NCMP) project including bridging the functional gaps across observational data and the model input and output data to facilitate model-to-observational inter-comparisons in support of the IPCC's Climate Model Intercomparison Project(s) (CMIP) and their associated Assessment Reports (AR). This project will also provide improved scientific data manipulation capabilities using Unidata software and applications (the THREDDS Data Server, TDS) to enable aggregation of long time-series model data. This will benefit a broad range of users across Earth Science and the University communities in the access and use of these data.
With the successful completion of the NCMP MIP project, both NOAA and Unidata's University communities will have gained access to data of great scientific value, and they will also be able to replicate this work with Unidata software, exposing their own data sets in an interoperable and standards-conforming way. Unidata users will directly benefit from new features and interoperability improvements made to the Unidata infrastructure software.
